Electric Mirror Control Knob

Featured Replies

Whilst trying to get into the car and not hitting the car parked next to me, I kneed what I originally thought was my travel mug which is located in the bottle holder section of the door bin.  It turned out it was actually the entire Electric Mirror Control Knob (EMCK).  I hit it so perfectly I pushed it through the door card so that it was left dangling inside.  After many expletives, and thinking this was a 'door card off' job, I was able to retrieve it via the plier section of my Gerber grabbing onto the Control knob and twisting it through the hole.  The EMCK is now back in situ and seems to be working as before, though my CDO now thinks it is slightly skewhiff and raised on one side!

Question, should there be an 'O' ring or anything else that secures/seals it against the door card?  As it seems the only thing securing it in place is the surround is slightly larger than the hole from the outside, and the weight of the wires on the inside.

Many thanks in advance.

I did the same thing but broke the surround.  There is nothing but the 'tabs' on the knob that clip into slots on the surround (about 3 of them I think).  I broke the slot pieces so just replaced the whole trim.  Around £5 for a new one from the dealer if I remember correctly.
