Smartlink - Worth it?

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a '16 Octy vRS; tried to get smartlink running and it's asking for an activation key. Dealers want £120 to unlock it. Kinda miffed as the model I test drove had it all enabled and it was part of the vehicle tour from the sales rep, and paying for what is essentially a software lock is a bit cheeky...

So people who have it / use it: is it useful (as i've never used the feature)? I have an Android handset (Pixel XL) so would be using Android Auto...

Cheers

AFAIK it's a cabled-only feature...

Ah probably not worth it for me than. I like to put the phone away on listen to music via bluetooth. If I do have my phone cabled in on charge, the phone is in a cradle on the windscreen so using google maps etc would be easier having it placed there than having to look down at the Skoda screen.

Paid 150 for it on a new order so you're getting a good deal!  Use it whenever I'm in the car.  Google maps is better than the inbuilt navigation IMHO.  Google play music and Pocketcasts work superbly.  Voice commands are great (based on a posh Edinburgh accent).  Waze is on the way too.

Bear in mind:  No integration with Maxidot.  Apart from that, I'm very happy.
