Insurance Renewal Woes

Featured Replies

Have just received advance info from insurance company that my insurance ends on the 2nd June. I have insured via them for 14 years and have full NCD. The car is a modest Fabia 1.2 TSI SE and I now do well under 10000 per annum

This year, they are asking for a 32% premium increase !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are others having this same experience?

loyalty counts for nothing. just keep moving your business around.

Hopefully even though you have been with the same insurance company for 14 years, you have always shopped around for quotes from other company's. Being loyal to one company just does not pay! I usually shop around every year and see if any decent insurance company's can better my renewal quote. Then go back to my usual company to see if they will match it, or even better it. Although according to the news, insurance rates have generally gone up a bit this year, I am fairly sure because you are so loyal, they are just trying it on. Shop around my friend and come back and tell us what savings you have made. Just use a comparison web site or make a few phone calls.

Yep, every year

issue being the system generates an automatic renewal price and posts to existing customers, a % will just automatically renew so they are a captivated audience, then you'll get a % who ring customer services to query the hike in price, many will accept the stereotypical replies maybe umming and rrrring enough to get a small ' loyalty ' discount, so for them it's happy days ' I've saved a bit !! '

then you have the likes of me, use at least a couple of search and compare sites to secure the best price on offer, then ring existing insurer, complain bitterly at their renewal quote, the amount of time you have wasted especially as more often than not their on line price will be considerably cheaper and insist that a overseeing manager matches your best quote as a gesture of customer loyalty towards you, I've been known to get a ' discounted ' price as I've done their sales teams job for them..........

also remember that £10 or so a year extra with your existing insurer over your cheapest quote is often worth it to avoid the hassle of verifying your ncb etc, and the longer you've been an existing customer the louder you can complain

Had the same problem mate better on price comparison sites , also make sure you check them all I've found certain price sites are more than others

Went from one 'reputable' company to another nationally known company. Got the same level of cover.

Result? -  saved £120. This is ridiculous in that it shows the disparity in the insurance industry, and the questionable method of 'auto renewal'.

No doubt the 'new' provider will up its premium next year - but then I will take a good look around as others have suggested.

The IPT changes from 10% to 12% on June 1st.  Reading the gov.uk website on this it should only apply if the premium is received from this date although your insurer will have undoubtedly factored this in.  I have a policy due to renew on 01/06 but like plenty of other companies they shaft their loyal customers :finger:.  I've renewed early with another insurer at the lower IPT rate.
