1.2 DSG

Featured Replies

My shark stage one mapped 1.8tsi is in for a new heated seat element and 2nd MOT and as a loan car I have a jungle green 1.2 dsg which so far has proved a splendid device. It is adequately brisk, the gearbox is a delight and the stop start is logical effective and also a delight. I want one and would heartily commend one. More than enough poke for a 20 mile A1 run and like silk in town. My previous 140 tdi and current 1.8 are more powerful but not especially licence friendly.

I soooo wish that the 150bhp 1.4 TSI has been offered with a DSG.  Would have ticked all the boxes!

Jungle Green 1.2TSi DSG you say?

We have two. LOL59186618a32af_Yeti29.thumb.JPG.f20c5a362265d2e6845df604cc206038.JPG

Had the 1.2TSi DSG combo in the Fabia, Octavia and Yeti.

Perfectly capable and crisp around town and on Motorways. The only time I would like a bit more power is for higher speed A road overtakes. I would have had a 1.4TSI DSG if it had been available.

The Yeti's aerodynamics also hurt economy as at motorway speeds it's 10mpg behind the Octavia.

Love it Lee, I'd like to park mine alongside those two beauties

In the middle Clive, so it breaks up the Scudo wheels

And yes, I'd be another one in the 1.4T DSG camp...

Smart Link is definitively the answer if you want to combine NAV / Audio Apps and phone.

For music alone the latest head units are great with the SD Card but I nearly always use Android Auto now.

+1 for Smartlink

Just ordered a 1.2 dsg Sel dsg candy white, with smartlink, spare wheel removal (for extra boot space) spare to keep in garage and 4th year warranty-car said to be built and over the water.

My 1.8 will be sold to same dealer at £11600 at 4 years old and having paid the balloon at £9k last year. so I will drive away with a new car more suited to my age and lack of reflexes and more licence friendly. I will take a large cheque with it and am a happy yeti continuer My first an aqua blue my second a black magic and the third a white one- the next will have a fairy light on!

I will be seeking VCDS help to get rid of the bluetooth bong, and he seatbelt ding and to get the maxidot to show Australian MPH. I cant see a better everyday drive than a yeti and will be delighted to see a third. I will miss the pano roof but all in all I will have a great car for the next 4 years.

I have already looked at the Shark website though!

I  truth i don't know but 492 miles old and I guessed a 110.  is the 105 still sold?

It's been the 110 version for a while now.

I was hoping to hear applause for my wonderful choice... i'm hoping i won't miss the 4x4 or 200+ bhp .

If you listen very carefully, you should be able to hear it from a little further north

As for the change from the 1.8TSI; you'll just have to adjust! B)

No, as been said it's not been sold for in the Yeti for a while now but I didn't now the age of your loaner.

The 110 is a sweeter unit and it pulls harder earlier in the rev range. A shame it will be a short lived engine as it's an excellent unit.

As for the 1.2 TSi, our family fleet includes a 1.2 TSi 105, 1.2 TSi 110 and a 2.0TDi 175bhp DSG Passat.

The Passat with 175bhp and 420NM will obviously leave the 1.2's for dead especially on higher speed overtakes but to be honest I mainly drive the TSi's

The TSi/DSG combo just feels so slick and it's surprisingly brisk.

You have to recalibrate your high speed overtakes when you are used to blasting past slower traffic but other than that it's great.

I've been that taken with the small TSi units that the Passat will probably be replaced with a 1.4TSi DSG Octy.

@JCP - I have a Shark STS box going spare, if you want to add a bit more va-va voom to the 1.2TSI

My experience was that the old 1.2 TSI DSG combination worked very well, and I would imagine the newer 110 hp version would be better, so an excellent choice.  Apart from the pre-planning required for high speed overtaking, the other area where I found it slightly limited was when needing to move briskly from a minor road turning directly and sharply into a national speed limit dual carriageway, because the engine is so light it readily spins its wheels.

The high speed overtaking is quite simple in a DSG though.  A bit less than one second before the way will be clear, floor the accelerator.  That gives enough time for the DSG to drop to the appropriate gear and the turbo boost to build, then you are away with no worries about over-revving or accidentally choosing the wrong gear.  If the way doesn't clear as anticipated, immediately lift off the accelerator.

We've a 66 plate 1.2tsi 110ps. Its manual but even so its a particularly sweet unit and it drives really really well.

Even though on paper its slower than my elderly 185ps 2.0t petrol vectra, it doesn't feel slower at all and is a better drive all round, pulling from lower down the revs.

Is Smartlink still an option on SE Drive and SEL DRive models or is it standard?

Someone else is asking me. :)

Lee

I know SmartLink was a £150 option on the SE Drive. Not sure about SE L.

It's an option on SE L

Probably the same £150 option cost then?

It is an option the dealer can enable for you though if not on the car order. I initially ordered it then changed my mind as I don't use music or apps on my phone when driving and it is not as good with an iphone as with android apparently.

However if things change I can have it enabled later, same cost though.

It's effectively a license cost for the software, as I understand it. Good to know if could be enabled later though.
