Skoda stereo replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time posting here, longtime Skoda owner. Our current Skoda is from 2004/5 and an Octavia estate. I wanted for a long time to replace the stereo unit because it was rubbish, but recently the CD player started really jumping so we bit the bullet. We bought this: https://is.gd/IUImTe and it's great and all, but not the same shape as the fascia from the stock model. If I clip back the standard fascia I get a gap on either side and the top and bottom are too snug. I've seen on YouTube that there is a version of the stereo that has a shell over the top - https://youtu.be/jPyaJ57x4og?t=43s but this isn't the kind I have. Mine is like the one in this vid - https://youtu.be/Il5jLhSrDp8?t=21s especially the bit under the radio, where there's a line for the temperature display. Hopefully, my photos will show enough.

Anyway, because of this forum I found this: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct24sk06-facia-plate-for-skoda but I don't know if it will work. It looks to me like the screws would be the right place, but the plastic would encroach too much. Can anyone suggest a solution? Also, I know this is a British Skoda site and I'm based near Bordeaux in France, but it won't make any difference. I can always come over to Blighty if necessary...

Thanks in advance,

B

Oh yeah, also. The lead you see is for the GPS antenna that came with the unit. Is there a way for me to pass it up through the dash rather than having the lead trailing out like that? I know the wife will get twitchy when she sees it...

Antenna can be mounted in the dash behind the head unit.  There's a metal bar by the bulkhead which can be used. Antenna will work fine from there.  The unit you've got is a Columbus and as you've discovered it needs a new fascia. Lots of different versions exist at a wide variety of prices. You need one which is for pre face lift with navigation. Look at SuperSkoda on-line or ask at a dealer. I got one for my pre FL Scout so it was the same shape you need but silver. I'll see if I can dig out a part number though.

Thank you! I reckon this part will be the right one for me - http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-II/Octavia-II-04-08-dashboard-plate-for-COLUMBUS-units--CLIMATRONIC-PIANO-BLACK-Laurin-Klement .It's not great that it's shiny (the original is black but matt), but other than that, perfect.

That should fit, but they also do a matt black version which is cheaper: http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-II/Octavia-II-04-08-dashboard-plate-for-COLUMBUS-units--CLIMATRONIC-in-BLACK

At only €27 plus postage it's probably worth grabbing a new one. Saves waiting for a used one to come up :)

Even more as the OP is in France so a UK seller is likely to have expensive postage costs.

I ordered that one as it goes. Mind you, postage still wasn't cheap. It came to €39 all told. Thank y'all for your help, I was thinking that I'd either have to put the rubbish original one back in and continue with a thing that translates BT to an unused radio station to get playback from my phone... The only thing that would be better is if the new stereo had a) a USB port on the panel and b ) it had Chromecast functionality so I can cast a film from the phone to the display... but you can't have everything (otherwise where would you put it?).
