Rear washer pipe blocked

Featured Replies

Anyone any thoughts/guidance on how to locate & unblock the rear washer line?

It's not the usual issue of where it goes though the spindle because if take the pipe off still nothing comes out.

The pump is definitely working, the tank is full, and there is no puddle left on the ground when you try it.

Usually with most things if you run it and stick your finger over the pipe it'll cause back pressure and may clear it.

There is also a join in the pipe, from memory it’s on the N/S of the car at the rear... check it has not come apart at the join and the boot is not filling up with washer fluid.

Not too sure what you mean by going through the spindle. Apologies if I've misread but have you tried pulling the washer jets off and seeing if it pumps water out? That's the issue i had with mine. I thought the pipe had come off at first. I cleaned the jets out with a piece of wire from a wire brush.

Thanks for the replies.

LGM, haven't tried covering the end, but as nothing is coming out, hadn't thought of that.

Gizmo68, I know about the issue with the join in the estate models, didn't know it affected the saloon also.  Can someone provide some guidance on where to find this connector?

Meaty101, the wash fluid pipe connects to the wiper motor assembly, where it turns 90 degrees then travels up the inside of the wiper spindle before turning a further 90 degrees and coming out the nozzle.  It's a poor design, has been since the beginning.  It is not uncommon for the nozzle to block, this then eventually knackers the seals, destroys the assembly and the whole thing becomes blocked up.  However, but disconnecting the pipe from the assembly I have confirmed the blockage is further back in the line as there is nothing coming out of the pipe.

I fail to see how it could be blocked any further up the pipe except at the nozzle unless you have poured a puddle water instead of washer fluid.

The pipe is usually with a bigger diameter than the nozzle and it couldn't get stuck like that. It could be that it has been blocked from outside, like with some panel,

Or as some has mentioned that connection has disconnected and the flow stops there.

You can try to track down the pipe as far as you can and locate the problem. Maybe you can try to gently pull the pipe out and see if it is disconnected somewhere?

I also can't understand how it's blacked further back, I can confirm no puddle water, bog water, veg peeling water or similar has been used to fill it up, the front washers are fine.

I know if Mk1, the pipe ran through the bottom of boot on the left hand side under where the CD change was - well at least on the estate, and that there was a coupling there.

If someone can shed some light on the routing and coupling location on the Mk 2 saloon, then I will endeavour to locate said coupling.

Ok,  so having lifted the carpet that covers the spare, it does appear that it is wet on the left.

Is the coupling under the carpet in the storage cubby on the left?  If so, how do I get to it?
