1.4 Tdi DSG reliable to 150k?

Featured Replies

Hi,

thinking of opting out of the company car scheme and taking the cash. My wife has a nice family car for when we go away, I have a V8 in the garage for Sundays so really only need a car during the week to carry 1 person.

Very little town use, all long journeys mostly on single A roads (80%), motorways (15%) and circa 5% town use.

I know now that's for A roads and motorways, CC's matter so on paper a 1.4 TDI is useless but modern diesels have loads of torque but importantly, do 30/35 mpg per 1,000 rpm in top gear so they are better cruisers than most would think.

I did a road trip last year in a 1.2 TDI Seat Ibiza. 2,600 miles around Europe to the Alps and it was fine. 80MPH on the motorways and a giddy top speed recorded of  110 MPH.

Going back to my question, I do 30k a year and to maximise the savings from my car allowance, I'd keep it the full 5 years, so is 150k possible/probable on a tiddler engine or should I be looking at a 1.6/2.0 instead. I've posted this in the fabia section but it could be a fabia, a Toledo or a Rapid.

Thanks in advance.

A few typos as I was typing on phone, sorry.

 Corrected a paragraph.

You'd be very surprised at the flexibility and robustness of both the 1.4tdi and the 1.2tsi

your best bet might be to test both over the same route.
