Towbar fitting for Yetis

Thanks.  I had seen that but had wondered if there was any detailed info that might help explain the big price difference between the fixed and removable towbars.  When you checkout the respective prices on the Witter website for my 2017 Yeti, it is £490.68 for the Westfalia fixed towbar and £618.60 for the removable, plus extra for the reprogramming on both bars. As that is only £128 difference, I had just wondered whether there is more reprogramming on the removable that would take it to nearer the  £200 you mentioned.

The reprogramming is the same what ever type of bar is fitted.

The removable tow bar is more physically more complicated than a fixed one, so more expensive to make, plus you have to pay extra for the hatch in the bumper

I had a Westfalia removable on my previous Yeti and never bothered to remove it in 3 years.

So current Yeti has non removable Westfalia fitted and coded by dealer for £400 .

That was a good price from a dealer! Which dealer was it, as a matter of interest?

(As an aside, I go past Llwyngwernog nearly every Tuesday, on my way to volunteering on the Corris Railway at Maespoeth.)

This has me wondering again about the removable one. Is it more than a 5 minute job to fit and unfit it, and does the hatch cover plate get worn and start falling off or need replaced?

Thanks in advance!

The fitting element is a matter of seconds, and my hatch never altered in the 5 years I had the previous Yeti.  The only reason I didn't have a removable one fitted on the new Yeti was economics.

Thanks. I'm thinking of a caravan that won't be very different from the one in your signature, but I guess I have to figure out how often I might use a trailer during the non-caravan months before making the decision.

fixed will protect the rear bumper etc, somewhat necessary here a la frog where they are prone to trying to park the equiv of a quart in a pint pot!  ; - ))

Including opening the boot, lifting the ball out, pulling the cover off the bumper, and fitting the ball, I doubt it takes 30 seconds, and a minute at the most.

Totally with FrenchTone.

Save money, time and your rear bumper with a fixed towbar!

It's a roughie-toughie 4x4 after all insn't it?

Hoping to get a little more info on this thread. I have a 1.2 SE-L and would like to fit a removable tow bar. I only need to tow an 11 ft rowing boat short distances so not a lot of weight. I have two questions if I may:

1. Anyone else towed with a 1.2 and if so any issues?

2. Is Westfalia still the best option for removable? As I will not be towing heavy loads and it's for very occasional use. , are there any other cheaper solutions? I got a price from a local guy for this job who I trust 100% to do me a good job and it was £930!!

Check what the towing capacity is of your Yeti. You should have this on the door pillar [from memory] and also in the owners manual. On the continent owners of lightweight caravans towed with the 1.4 and 1.2 petrol engines. I would have thought the low weight and height should be fine.

I'd advise contacting PF Jones ,who will fit a wide choice of tow bars at your home address at a good price and have a good reputation.
