Blinker problem: No 12V to left sidemirror blinker

Featured Replies

Hi

Had my car inspected today and the left sidemirror blinker was not working. Bought a new 5w bulb and connected it, but it did not solve the problem.

Otherwise left rear and front are working and the complete right side of car.

So how do I proceed with my fault finding? Have tried to search for wiring diagrams but since I am not native English spoken ( from Sweden) I do not know the correct technical names.

Is there a separate relay somewhere? What cable colour shall I check? etc etc

All I can see is that I have ground (black) and a red cable connecting the socket. From the cable harnest from door I do not have Red so it must be switched somewhere inside the mirror.

Ps Don´t know if it is related but the side mirror heater has never worked

Thanks for all the help I can get.

Is your "blinker" (indicator) not an led???

:) Well now after I will say yes.

I had a 12v-0v signal in the white cable coming from harnest into the black little ciruiteboard. Problem was a burned diod(<--I believe it is, the black three legged component) So I took the red/black lamp cables and soldered that to the 12V and ground directly (bypassing the board). The lamp blinked but I first then noticed that it was the white position lamp and not the orange flashing I was looking for.

First then I understod why the board was there and that there was LED blinkers. :wall:

Guess I have to buy a complete new module insted unless I  can replace the broken diod.

It seems to be a fairly common problem as moisture gets into the fitting.

Should be around £30 for the part with puddle light included. Easy to fit though.
