Polo/ibiza springs question

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a theoretical question!

I believe that Fabia/Ibiza/Polos of the same age (6Y fabia/9N polo, can't recall the ibiza code) all have the same fitting springs, albeit rated differently for the different models/specs/engine

My question is this: My Fabia's current springs are rated (I think) as front = 900kg, rear = 875.

If i were to fit lower-rated springs e.g. front = 860, rear = 840, so a total reduction of 75kg, would this result in the car sitting/riding as though i had a 75kg person in the car with me?

Is it that simple, or am i missing something? I suppose the maximum load of the car would then also be reduced by 75kg?

Cheers

Ibiza is 6L by the way.

I'd think that if you fitted the springs from a lighter car, the car suspension would perform as it was loaded, in your case with roughly an extra person.

Just a side comment, I ordered in a pair of front springs for a later Ibiza 1.4 16V, ie a 6J from ECP, and the box was identified for Ibiza only, that surprised me, I have not looked up all the different part numbers for all latest Fabia/Polo/Ibiza to confirm that that is correct though!
