Head unit-- what do you recommend?

Featured Replies

Just want to change the head unit (8 speakers in the car and they will do for now) for a decent cd/radio/mp3/cdr maybe 6 disc changer in my Superb ....double din space is there to be used....... apart from that it must have a black facia and have green lighting to match in ....nothing bright silver and I have gone past having flashing lights everywhere.

I know I am opening the floodgates here...... but what do you recommend?

 Don't want it looking out of place ....cant stand the black dashboard with a bright silver radio stuck out of it :P

Fair enough. I'd say you'll have to go for a VAG item though given the specifics and the double din size. Not sure theres much available aftermarket to fit the bill though.

BTW Did you get that towbar washer sorted?

I like the Blue Spot DAB ones. Superted has the Woodstock 53 in his Fabia' date=' it matches really well and if I felt the need it would be my choice.

I was watching a few on Ebay a little while ago which seemed reasonable.

Oddly enough this one is rather close to you -

I shall have to find out who that is now :D it would save on P&P wouldn't it.....and it doesn't look too bad....even the buy it now price is resonable

I blame it on Misspiggy she distracted me by talking ......again:rofl:

Sorry, couldn't resist it.

I don't think that is a good price to be honest. He is obviuosly a new member with 0 feedback and a new, warranted one from here isn't much more -

Actually if you paid his shipping it works out dearer.

Can't find anything cheaper than that anywhere  so that may be the one....and there loads of colour variations for the display to get it just right.......does the windscreen ariel for DAB work OK?

It may be worth dropping the ebay seller an email as you are local, make him a low offer and see if he bites. He could then cancel his auction and save the fees and you could take the cash round to him.

As for ariels I'm afraid I don't know. Superted is in the ariel business and got himself a combined DAB/FM/AM roof mount to match the standard Skoda one.

Funny you should mention that  no reply as yet

Ahh, Mr Octygone

My old man has the woodstock dab 54 in his car and he really likes it. It is a very good "OEM-lookalike" head unit. Once configured to display in green, it is very Skodalike green :D

I have the blaupunkt combo beesting AM/FM/DAB aerial fitted to my furby now (bought off Jeffaroo). My old man has a secondary DAB aerial which goes through the rear quarter window, or wherever you want to fit it. It's easier and cheaper than the beesting aerial I have, but is prone to vandalism and shows you have a DAB head unit which may make your superb more attractive to theifs :(

One other note with the 54 head unit, if you like listening to MP3s, it's very handy because as well as CD, it also has an SD/MMC car slot so you can dump all your favourite tracks onto a 512MB one of those without having to burn a new CD everytime you want to change ;)

If you want photos, I can get some off my dad's car. It is very elegant and truly looks like a factory install

I bought it for him as a birthday pressie from Scan for about

Will the Kenwood DDX6027 show the dot matrix info?

My choice would be a Becker unit, god they sound good. Very OEM looking, lovely to use, top quality and simply a great head unit...

I'll be buying one when funds allow. :o

Linky

It's not bad and a good price as well, but I think the first one will look more original

Really? I feel a poll coming on...
