Can anyone help diagnose clicking noise on my new b,twin hoptown 300 folding bike

Featured Replies

Can anyone help diagnose clicking noise on my hoptown 300 folding bike. Video link in first comment , clicking can be heard 1 minute into video. Only happens when peddling under load. Sometimes although rarely the noise goes completely but 80% of the time it is there. In the last 15 seconds of the video I have managed to stop the noise after peddling backwards a few times. Any help gladly appreciated.

Other than the clicking sound I am very happy with the bike which cost £129 delivered from decathlon.

Sounds like a sheep to me:blush:

Sound like it is multiple times per revolution of the pedals so maybe lift the back and see if it only occurs when pedalling or if also when freewheeling. Check to see if there is a wire that is catching, looks like a long pig tail on the rear brake cable that might be in the spokes or similar.  Or might be the plastic guard, to stop the chain getting stuck between the freewheel and the spokes that's not secure.

Could try here and work through some of the listed hints but they are sometimes simple and other times take a while, be logical and try and think how you can make it go away and then go back to what you changed to try again.

It's hard to tell from the video but bottom bracket was my thought?

take pedals off, grease threads and put them back on, see if it goes away? Had similar on my road bike, thought it was the chain rings or bottom bracket but it was the pedals

You need a knee replacement  :D

Check: rear skewer, bottom bracket, crank arms, chainring bolts, pedals.  Grease any threads and torque up as per manufacturers recommendation.

I'm just in the process of stripping my Evo Hi Mod down.  I think the bottom bracket shell may be cracked.  It's took me a few weeks to change various parts and rule out what's causing a tapping/clicking when under load.  It's either the FSA adapter sleeve moving the BB shell or a crack in the frame itself.  After some apparently massive flex at the w'end, I'm inclined to think I'll be contacting Cannondale for a warranty claim. I hate a noisy bike!

Have you got a workstand?  Or someone who can hold the rear end up whilst you turn the pedals?  See if it's under load or just rotation.
