Hot air only on max or ice cold, and a whirring noise?!

Featured Replies

Last week or so I've had the aircon on but I noticed a strange whirring type noise which seems to come from the middle vents, partly when it's on but mainly more noticeable when you turn off the climatronic, like a bearing going in a fan or something. When you turn it off though, it stops after about 5 seconds or so. Anyway, the aircon has been on with the warm weather but I thought I'd have a play and it turns out it won't kick out any sort of heat unless it's on max and then it's full blast! Anywhere in between seems to be around or as cold as when the aircon is on.

Had a brief search, but couldn't really find too much that was helpful so has anyone else experienced this or can they suggest what might be going on? A guess would be some sort of flap isn't working because of the noise, but I don't know which ones do what and where they are in the cabin?

I've tried the two button trick to reset/test the flaps and that didn't work. (I did somehow also get some other display up from pressing two incorrect buttons, but I have absolutely no idea what that was... might I have done something accidentally??)

Any ideas?? :crying:

Possibly sounds like the heater flaps are not working correctly. Ideally you could do with getting it scanned with vcds and see what the flap positions are along with what temp each sensor is reading.

Thanks, that was my next step, just wondering if anyone had come across it before. :)

Hi blackspaven, did you manage to fix this?

My 09' Plate 2.0tdi has a similar fault where this morning I could only get cold air...slightly off cold from the screen vents and only when on full blow.

Ive also tried the 2 button trick and the vents all seem to open and close sequentially?

I will try to plug my VCDS in at some point but wondered if you had any success?
