Help Octavia Scout Transmission

Featured Replies

Folks surely someone can please assist me. When i put my 2008 scout into reverse it will only go 1 turn of the wheel backward before both front wheels lock up. Going forwards is generally ok but I notice a dull whine from front transmission. The car popped its turbo 4 weeks ago and ive only done 600 miles since getting it back after the recon one was fitted. I noticed a smell of gearbox oil of the cold air from the fan during the hot weather last week when the car was stopped. Both back wheels turn either direction freely. Questions 1. Is there any chance something was not connected again that is linked to the hillstart assist feature on this car when it was reassembled and is this why potentially why both front wheels will only rotate 1 turn before locking up. 2. could this fault have been a factor in the turbo blowing as occasionally when driving the car would hit what i would describe as a flat spot especially pulling away from roundabouts or junctions? 3. Or is this somehow related to the haldex clutch in the rear of the car although from what ive read elsewhere on Briskoda the haldex only engages when traction is lost to the front wheels.

Really dont have a clue with this one and to be honest there very little local knowledge where im living about Scout as theyre rare as hens teeth. Please help im really getting desparate thanks Colin P

Gearbox at front / main box is more or less standard with a slightly different bell housing / final and casing to bolt.on the 4 wheel drive parts.  Front angle box or more commonly referred to as a transfer box connects power to rear haldex unit and diff via a drive shaft and flexible joint. I would find out where the oil is leaking from before using the car again! Oil for front box and front transfer box is separate.

If the garage removed the subframe and or transfer box / a drive shaft to gain access to turbo that would be my starting point!

It only has 0.9l in it and is a different spec than front box.

I'd imagine the drive shaft has to be disconnected to gain access to the turbo.

I'd definitely be taking it back to the place that fitted the turbo.
