Octavia Scout 2.0 FSI petrol 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone here has / has experience of one of the above? I've been looking for a diesel scout for a while, but not had much luck finding a decent one. Plus I'm not that keen on DPFs, and possible clamping down on diesel cars by big cities etc. The petrol Scout models seem better value, despite their rarity. I think the road tax is higher, and I'd guess fuel consumption would be worse than the diesel version (not sure how much worse in real life, as Honest John doesn't have any real world MPG for the FSI Scout!) Are there any other drawbacks? Known weaknesses? Are parts for the petrol harder to come by?

Thank you.

For known weaknesses see the sticky thread at the top re. the 1.8 tsi engine. Most affected engines were the earlier 2010/2011 ones. Otherwise it's a nice engine with a reasonable balance of performance versus economy. On paper it's as quick as the diesel vRS and I generally get high 30s to low 40s out of mine. Less than my diesel vRS but it didn't have 4x4 or off road capability. I really like mine and just wish I hadn't had to put a new engine in it!

Thanks Sarge.

But that thread seems to refer to the TFSI engine? (Though I didn't look through all 150 pages of that thread!) I'm talking about a standard 2007 non turbo FSI engine. A bit of googling doesn't suggest many problems (an unstressed engine with no turbo), though the fuel consumption isn't that great compared to the TFSI...

Why did yours need a new engine, that's not what I want to hear! (Unless you are talking about a TFSI?)

Cheers.

Sorry sandspider, you're right - my mistake. That'll teach me to try doing Briskoda in a rush at work!

If you think finding an early diesel Scout is difficult then it'll be even harder finding a petrol, especially if it's the 2.0 FSI.

I'd bet less than 200 were ever registered in the UK, by which most of those will have been well retired by now.

No worries. Thought for a bit the FSI might suffer from the same problems as the tfsi!

As it happens, a petrol FSI scout has come up fairly near me, lower mileage and lower price than that one. (And two or three grand cheaper than the equivalent TDI scout)

But there certainly aren't many of them, so not many people seem to know much about them...

There are 42 taxed FSI scouts in the UK, and one sorned!

Rare as hens teeth!

From what I've read they are pretty gutless without a turbo and are prone to needing coil packs throughout their life but generally pretty reliable.

Thanks. They do seem to be slower to 60mph than the TDI, despite the extra power. I suppose the TDI has more torque.

We acquired a 2008 2 litre FSI Octavia 4x4 fairly recently and we are very pleased with every aspect of it.

Having owned a previous 2 litre FSI Octavia it is good for mid 30 mpg even when towing.
