Vrs - 16" or 17" alloys - 2002

Featured Replies

Morning all, I'm new here. I'll do a formal intro once I've picked my Vrs up... hopefully later today.

Just a quick question....will mine have 16" or 17" alloys? You'd think I'd know...but I've kinda bought unseen via the motor trade mate who's taken it in PX. Immaculate, well serviced, lowish mileage....couldn't refuse could I!

I'm hoping it has 17's......  Can't quite tell from the pic I've been sent....

The very early hatchbacks and estates had 16s.  Mines a Y and came with 17s.  Hard to tell from that angle but look like 17s

I had a 51 plate on 16" wheels, perhaps 17" were an option on early models

Maybe they ran low on 17s and chucked 16s on :)  I had an official brochure somewhere, lets see if I can find it.

You are all too kind, thank you.

UK Hatch on a 52; almost certainly 17s.

Thanks very much.....well pleased with that news. Can't wait to pick her up.

What did it cost you?

£800 ... With 12 month Mot! Totally standard.

Looks ok, wheels a bit dull unless they need a good cleaning/polishing?

Aftermarket exhaust too

It needs a thorough clean inside and out. I'm assured there's no damage...just neglected a little. Mechanically A1. Something to get my teeth in to over the next few weeks.... Is it aftermarket zorst for sure?

Yes its very slightly different than the standard exhast tip.

Have fun with those seats and carpet :)

Aye...light grey....never a good idea. Almost as daft as parchment in a Range Rover! Is the light grey on the seats leather or suede? I've a box of interior cleaning and leather care products in my mancan .... Hope I've got something up to the job. I'll take before and after snaps. Might be pleasing to see the transformation.

from the pic they look like 17s

probably are too, only seen estates with 16s

easy to tell when you collect from tyre

@STSKODA There were some very early hatches on the Y only had 16". The 312mm discs and DS3 calipers do just fit under the VAG 16"x6.5"ET42 rims.

Smoked rear clusters?  The rear badge is also low,

mine for reference

Mmm, that badge is lower. My mate mentioned that the headlights had a light tint. Looks like the rears had an application too. I'll use some 2500 wet'n'dry and some polish to sort that out. Can't be having light tints... I can live with the badge position for now though

Goodness, where has the time gone?? I've been driving my Vrs since last Thursday. What a fabulous car! It's hard to dislike anything really. The handling, acceleration, ride etc are all first class. As enjoyable as some early VAG models which I previously owned now enjoying cult status. And averaging 37mpg!!  She has FSH, old MOTs, 96k miles. In great clean condition - but never a show car!

In short order I've taken the car back to factory appearance. The headlight / indicator tint film has been removed. I've swapped the carbon fibre wrapped grill for original chrome item with new badge.

I've added pictures of before and after. After much better in my opinion!

Much of my time has been spent giving her a deep clean, attending to stone chips and other paint defects. I've ordered a recirculation flap motor to cure strange noises from behind glovebox area. I've new key fob cases that I'll swap internals over to - nice new key fobs! The leather interior has come up a treat. Looks like new, but driver outer bolster needs replacing. The light grey inserts were vax'd to within an inch of their life. Look fab now. Keeping them clean might be difficult though.

She's back in to the garage on Saturday for new front disks and pads. To cure wheel wobble on braking.

All in all I'm thrilled with this purchase.. and pleased to have joined the Vrs ranks...
