Alloy Wheel Paint

Featured Replies

So, apart from the alloy wheel centre caps delaminating, I have just noticed that the paint on one spoke of the o/s/r alloy wheel is starting to bubble. Anyone else had this problem?

Fabia 3, SE L, Reg Sept '15, 14k miles, standard 16" silver alloys.

Probably from a stone chip.

What do you wash the wheels with? Or do you let the supermarket car park washers lose on it?

If you use strong wheel cleaner it can degrade the finish and start corrosion on the edges where the paint is thin.

You could try a warranty claim, but they will probably say its just wear and tear from a stone chip. Might just have to touch it up with a silver touch up stick. I've used BMW Titanium silver in the past.

Well stone chips and wear and tear do not go together,  stone chips and loss of protection and corrosion setting in goes together.

So if to the metal / alloy in this case then obviously you need to treat that, so inhibitor then touching up, etch primer or rust inhibitor.

Examine all wheel closely to see especially from the centre bore when the corrosion between hub and wheel often begins where even Centre Caps

get corrosion.

Thanks guys, I'll see what nice Mr Skoda has to say but if it's merely surface I'm tempted to just keep an eye on it and then get it refurbished before we part company.

They might get replaced under warranty regardless of what Main Dealer employees say, just as Dark Chrome Gigaro had to be,

yet some 'Employees' try to say ' User abuse, external influences / washing / damage, using them as wheels on a car and cleaning them'

caused corrosion..

Time will tell. 'Simply clever', this waiting and seeing but be sure to report early enough and have it on record.
