Delivery Timescales

Maybe ?? Once the car is made & in the u.k.  I could have more of a say in the matter...but DEFINITELY NOT going to pay any extra for a potential "downgrade" & the likes of e-bay are a last resort !

Dealer update yesterday now set to build in wk 50. Yo yoing between 49 and 50 lately. So one month to wait for it to be built and you'd think there would be less movement the nearer you get but apparently not. Hoping to get the car by mid January.

I think your timescale and getting the car mid January sounds about right. A nice late Christmas present! :)

Build week now bumped to mid January. Seems odd that they suddenly move it back a month but I suppose the Christmas / New Year period explains that. I don't mind the wait and at least I will have a 2019 model. Probably might as well wait for the 19 plate now. Only problem will be expense of servicing, MOT, tyres on my Fabia which will be 3 years old end of January. Hey ho!

That's a pain!  I think it's worth talking to Skoda Customer Services about the additional costs you face through their delays and inability to provide you with the car you ordered in a timely fashion.  There's nothing to lose!  I believe others have had this sort of expense covered in these circumstances, if you have a look back through this thread.

Good luck!

Peter.

Thanks Peter - useful advice. It's back to build week 49 now.

Week 49 again? I wonder how much faith you can put in this based upon your previous experience .

So latest dealer update is the car is being built in 10 days time. Meanwhile my existing car is due a service in 4 weeks. Good news is the dealer says I don't need to service the car and they'll do it after the p/x.

  • Author

That's good news and the least they could do, to be honest.

It looks like your new car will be a nice New Year present and a 2019 registration.

Found out today my car is due to be built next week. Ordered on the 28th of october, to take into account a potential 6 month wait and march. May miss the 2019 reg at this rate.

I would be surprised if it got to the UK much before the turn of the year.  By the time it gets to the dealer and gets PDI'd it probably will be early January anyway.  Your dealer might hang on to it until March, maybe?  Fingers crossed for you!

I cant see it getting here until at least mid january, the factory ckoses for two weeks I think anyway and then it has to get through the queue at the dock. Im not exactly in a rush to get it and I'd like a march reg but I doubt the garage would keep it for me for a month and a half.

It should be possible to do that, that's pretty much what I did last time that I changed my car as the car was built in late December but didn't reach the garage until the end of January and there wasn't any issue in waiting another month to get it on the new plate. This time around I've been given a build week of 50 with the current car due to go back at the end of February, it makes sense to get the new Octavia on March 1st, not much point in having two cars at one time!

Its a conversation worth having I guess. It depends on the reasoning for wanting the 19 plate I guess. What would be the implications other than the plate? Would it be a financial impact come trade in? I genuinely dont know. If theres no implication other than the vanity Id probably rather have my new car on the 18 plate (or 68 I guess).

I was forgetting about the factory closure . Nothing lost by asking or perhaps saying you cannot collect it until then, especially if you originally ordered on that basis?

Looks like we all posted at the same time!

I personally think there's extra value in the later plate but don't know if that's backed up in the real world or not.

Yeah they are a decent dealer I guess, last time out they fitted a black grille surround (took a lot of convincing to rip the silver one off) and black mirror covers that I supplied and held it for 2 weeks. I'd love to have my new car now because its such a change (Ive specced virtual cockpit, dcc and DSG amongst other things) but I dont want to put myself at a disadvantage. Im in italy last week in January so that would be a delay. I will speak with the Skoda lead guy when dates become obvious. Looking forward to it. Seems like only 5 minutes since I was commenting on this topic while waiting 18 weeks for my My16 VRS!

I hope you get everything sorted to your satisfaction. Either way you will end up with a cracking car! Any financial impact will probably be small and outweighed by getting in the car sooner.

Nice spec, by the way!

Thanks!! I was holding out for the Karoq sportline but couldnt justify 30k on one. Got a good carwow reduction and could have ended up payimg less than I am now without any extras. Luckliy Im in positive equity despite trading in a negative equity car and only paying a 1k deposit. I had originally not specced DCC and went for a heated screen until I read they come on automatically at 4 degrees C, which means up here in cumbria it will be on for most of winter eating fuel and messing with the start stop. I got the heated seats (a must have, I have them on my my16) and also got a reverse camera (mrs's choice!) And a space saver. The best part is I have a 12 mile commute that can take anything from 25 minutes to an hour and Ive done that for 15 years in a manual. Im looking forward to lazy DDG and not riding the clutch every day!

Still NO DEFINITE build date....but have been offered an "upgrade"  of factory options for 30% of r.r.p. some are NOT what I would have considered though...24hrs to think about then they need know ! My original order could have week build 2/3 ….NEXT YEAR ! !...…...Thinking its a no brainer ??……..LETS DO IT !!

I love the six gear DSG in my vRS and definitely wouldn't go back to a manual.  It's not quite as good as the BMW ZF 8 gear autobox but it's not far off.  I'm sure you'll be very happy with it!

I didn't know that the heated screen came on automatically at 4 degrees.  I've only had this on one previous car; a Ford Sapphire Cosworth way back in 1988!!  That had a button on the dash for on and off.

Octavia 1.5 tsi  SEL my19 in Brilliant Silver & with my original 3 factory option plus another 6 factory fitted extras [not all what I would have considered] collect Thursday / Friday next week... A RESULT !!!! Out of interest my original order will NOT be cancelled & the dealer will await its EVENTUAL delivery ?

Mananged to get free fitted front mudflaps to make a firm commitment to-day & allowed the original p/x deal on the Rapid ….all is well ?

Didn’t know you could still get mudflaps let alone want them. Pretty rare these days

What do you call the ones fitted rear of the back wheels fitted as standard on the Octavia ? Fitted to the rear of the front wheels...same purpose ! & as for being pretty rare ALL my cars over 45 years -23 new cars ALL have had a full set of mudflaps or what ever you call them ! Listed as an accessory by "most" car makers including Skoda.
