Amunsen or Samsung?

Featured Replies

I have a Samsung phone that I plug in via the USB connection sometimes for the purpose of charging it. However, after a few minutes of connection the Amunsen unit powers down and turns itself off. I have to press the power/volume button to restart the infotainment system again. Anyone had similar problems and found a solution?

Could you plug your phone into the 12v socket instead using a USB plug?

Yes I could with an adapter, but just wondered if this was a infotainment or phone issue.

That should definitely not be happening!

Suspect it's an infotainment issue with unit shutting down on its own...

I'm sure there was another report of the same thing a while back on here somewhere.

I cant recall if there was a solution (I think a 12v USB charger might have been it) but I'll see if I can find the thread.

Just to prove its the Amundsen, you could charge something else via the USB port just to check.

Then a trip to the dealer for them to investigate.

Thanks I'll perhaps try that with my i-pod

I do play music via a memory stick with no such problems

The memory stick draw minimal power & doesn't have any special transport protocols like PTP/MTP on Android.

Best to check with another phone or an iPod like you suggest.

My old Nokia WinPhone used to crash the Amundsen when the battery was nearly discharged. I came to the conclusion that it was drawing too much current from the USB.

The solution was not to do that !

I thought the usb socket only outputs about 500mw, but most mobile phones now require around 2000mw (2A), mine does not power down the Amunsden but it charges the phone very slowly, I got a 12v 2A amp usb charger from lidl to make charging faster. If you check the wall charger that came with your phone I'm sure it will say output of 2A or higher, my latest phone charger is 2.5A.
