Hill assist not working

Featured Replies

Having problems with hill assist or hill hold. Where as I used to not worry when on a incline that I would roll back as after applying the brake the vehicle wouldnt roll backwards for some reason this function has been inadvertently deactivated. Does anyone know how I reactivity this function

Your 1st post, so welcome.

Are you sure you're talking about Hill Hold as what you describe sounds more like Auto Hold?

Auto Hold keeps the brakes applied when you come to a halt and take your foot off the brake.

Hill Hold, if fitted, only operates when pulling away on a slope.

Auto Hold can be enabled/disabled by pressing the switch next to the EPB (electronic parking brake). It's the one with the same symbol as the EPB but with a letter A instead of P and the switch is always illuminated when enabled.

When Auto Hold is active (when you've stopped and it's keeping the brake pressure applied) a green P illuminates in the instrument cluster. If you manually apply the EPB the green P extinguishes and a red P illuminates.

If you have Hill Hold (standard with DSG, an optional extra with Manual) then it's automatically enabled on a slope greater than 7 degrees and is not something that can be activated/deactivated by the user.

Hill Hold gives you a second or so to apply enough acceleration to pull away after releasing the EPB or the Auto Hold disengaging. It releases the grip of the brakes in proportion to your acceleration.

If you don't apply sufficient acceleration to move off within a couple of seconds then Hill Hold no longer functions and the vehicle will roll.

If Hill Hold is fitted and has indeed stopped working then it's a visit to the dealership as it's most probably a software or sensor fault.
