FREE (ish) CAR - '92 JDM Honda CRX Del Sol VXi Auto

Featured Replies

I've been lucky enough to have been given two cars in my life. Well one not so 'lucky' really as I inherited it from a dear friend who lost out to prostate cancer.

So I'm going to do the same, and give mine away.

Two conditions: 1) don't take it off me just to flog it or put in on ebay and make a quick buck out of me - I can do that!, and 2) give a minimum of £50 to the charity of your choice. Gentleman's agreement.

It's been my car four about four years. It was poorly when I got it. It's lots better now.

While in my ward, I have; Fixed the Transtop, replaced all four tyres (now Yokohama's), oil and filters change, new front brake pads, new radiator (and coolant), replaced all the boot carpets, replaced the broken glove box and other broken, or missing bits, had the bootlid resprayed, and put a new stereo in it (electric aerial works, but I disconnected it when disconnecting a hands-free kit and haven't bothered to re-connect it as I don't listen to the radio).  It's also had a new exhaust, fitted by a specialist so as to retain the OEM cat.

I stupidly hit my wife's car in it, at parking speed. Paintwork damage only. I thought I'd be clever and replace the bumper with a new one, which I did. It was a bit of a pig to fit. If I were keeping it, I'd put the old one back on and have it re-sprayed (minor repair needed as the paint cracked and came off as the bumper flexed). You can have the original bumper as I've kept it, and it helps to see how minimal the damage was.

No service history (evidence suggests it's been looked after). No idea about cam belt changes. It looked alright to me and I've trusted to luck since. Speedo reads about 20% low.  D15b single cam engine.

MOT's have consistently advised rear drums ovalling and front light pattern affected. Both unchanged while I've had it.  It's MOT'd until December 2017.

Paintwork's a bit tired, and if you're like me you'll probably be able to find rust and marks on every body panel. It's utterly reliable and I'd drive it to John O'Groats and back without hesitation.

Needs collecting in the next fortnight or it's going on ebay, or up the scrap yard.

It's JDM (obviously), so be aware of the fun to be had around insurance.

That's what I'd prefer to see Andy.  I've done everything that needed doing.  Now needs someone else to improve on that.  I believe there's 103 of these left, but, based on Civic's, they're relatively easy to look after.

Dunno if these links will work, or if you have to be a Del Sol member:

Yes hugely tempting and a nice gesture by you.

I have too many if and buts on cars at the moment, one on ebay with a bid, and awaiting a seller to return a message about his for sale. Both soft tops and projects to do.

I doubt this will be here next week but I'll revisit just incase things change, somebody should snap that up for their project/use surely.

so tempted because its a rare car! but as I now have another five, i just don't know where I'd put it! our drive is chocka!

Today's a perfect day to be out in it, with the lid off.  In fact......

That's there, I am here B)

Can you pm me the reg just for insurance

Can't see it being much for an old fart like me

If no one else is interested and I can  sort wife and insurance out I would be happy to take this if that's ok

My dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer he left it too late to get diagnosed it's not brilliant he has never had a convertible car so it would be for him to use as well

Thanks everyone for the interest.  On hold momentarily while a couple of people get insurance quotes.

Very informative forum and seem a deal entire bunch

Had a good read on. Numerous threads and the original sales brochure scan is pretty cool

You have to be a paid up member to access certain areas. The Transtop forum must be one of them.

Hi Gaz,

I have been after one of these or a decent Mx5 for some time now!

I am willing to take you up on your deal and donate substantially more to charity.

Please can you send me a message, able to collect at your convenience.

Many thanks

Oliver

Thanks everyone, it's now all but gone, pending collection by its new owner

Oliver, lots of people say the MX5 is a better drive.  Me, I'm not so sure :mmm::shake:  I'm sure you'll enjoy either.

Gaz
