Engine "kick"

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I couldn't find a topic related to my issue so here I go.

My car gives a "kick"whenever i'm in a higher gear starting from 3rd. It almost feels like then engine is moving/wobbling when I slightly and gently touch the throttle initially. I replaced the lower engine mount but that doesn't seem to have changed much. I wonder if the top ones are gone. I try and push the engine with my hand but no easy movements happen. It seems really stiff.

It's a 1.6 TDI with 56 000 miles.

Thanks

My 1.6tdi does something similar but only at low revs.

it is noticeable in all gears but more in higher ones. I think it's the DMF as it makes a grinding noise when in gear rolling down hill not accelerating. Only 56k and it's already having expensive issues :(

I had the same symptoms, like a 'clunk' just as the drivetrain takes up drive and generally more vibration than usual. I too replaced the doggone and was disappointed to see little improvement. I have just done the gearbox mount (left engine mount) and although I could not move the engine in the car, now I've got it out I can see there's a lot of free play in it compared to the new one. The car seems to drive much better too and very little if not no clunking noise. You need the mount and the two stretch bolts that bolt it down to the engine. I paid around £80. Oh, and a 16mm spanner (which doesn't seem to be in any of my tool sets) will also be useful for the mount to body bolts.

Having said that, I also have the grinding noise at idle in gear, it did not solve that, I'm assuming DMF beginning it's way out there.

As far as I know, most 1.6 CR engines don't have DMFs but solid flywheels.

My 2012 105bhp was solid, my 2011 75bhp was solid and every other 1.6 CR I've worked on was solid ;)

Identical to you, noise, movement etc!! i replaced the lower mount as well and didn't do much. so it's the top engine mount/s?  can't seem to find the original ones on ebay. I'm worried i'll order the wrong part.

really? even the bloody skoda dealer told me it has a DMF. Just to show they have no clue what they sell sometimes.

I'm not saying it's impossible, they list a solid and DMF option for our vehicle. But all the Ones I've worked on have been solid :)

I ordered mine from a dealer, they can look up the right part for you (and the bolts) - although if you want to save a little money I believe the OEM mount is made by Lemforder, who sell a little cheaper though ECP. The dealers will definitely be able to order you the right part though.

I've not don't the right (oil filled) engine mount yet, but just the gearbox mount was a fair improvement.

Cheers, i found the correct one on ebay. Did you had to take much stuff apart to get to it?

Not today bad. Battery out, battery box out, air box out (or moved out of the way).

Hold the gearbox up with a jack (with a bit of wood between the jack and gearbox).

Undo two 16mm bolts mount to gearbox.

Either use your 16mm spanner or drop the engine down a bit to fit a ratchet and undo two sideways bolts to car.

Undo top top bolt to car, switch mount.

Body bolts can can be reused. 40nm + 90 degrees.

Engine bolts replaced. 60nm + 90 degrees.
