Service + MOT

Hi

If you are going to the expense of all that make sure they replace the water pump.

That is what mainly fails on the 1.8T engine.

Front brakes are bigger and they have the wear sensor on.

Thanks Sarah.Just telephoned them. They weren't going to do it but they are now.

They still think I am a bit potty having cambelt etc done at 55k which is disappointing.I'd rather be safe than sorry.Especially with it being nearly 5 years old.

I had people tell me I didn't need belt doing at 60k when I got mine done on my Audi A3 1.8T, but I got it done anyway. I knew I'd be keeping the car for at least another 10 or 15k miles, and would definitely want it doing in that time, so I played safe. I don't see why not, unless you're someone who'd risk leaving it until 80 or 90k miles, or selling the car without getting it done first, but most people would ask about it and knock money off if they had any sense.

Cambelt done early + waterpump makes sense, esp. if the car is remapped etc. It's much, much cheaper than repairing the damage if it does happen to go.

IMHO you did the right thing  - if nothing else, it's the peace of mind I suppose. I'm amazed they didnt suggest the waterpump to you though as it's a bit more labour & more profit for them with the retail markup on the waterpump.

Still, all sorted :)
