1st time Skoda owner, not so lucky with purchase

Featured Replies

It does not matter.

Are the Dealership refusing to take the car back?

They have records, for the HMRC.

If you were being sold a Euro 6 Emissions car or one that has a 110ps TDI engine and it was a 105PS then you were mis-sold.

Different value of car, different beast, keep and get compensated, or return and get compensated.

If the Car has been Advertised incorrectly I'd be onto the dealer for a refund plus out of pocket expenses and if that fails Trading Standards might be Intrested or even a Solicitors letter might get

  • Couple of things. Can't see why this has anything at all to do with Skoda ?   As for the dealer are they saying they have no control over autotraders data ? I would have said it's the bloody

  • If it was advertised as having a full service history you were clearly mis-sold - returning it is the right way to go.

They have told nothing yet, expecting a call from manager today after I phoned them yesterday and explained my problem. I would need a proof it was advertised as 110ps engine. Value is very different, you are correct. I really wanted updated 81kw engine.

As I always advise . Put the whole matter in writing. Detail the buying process, the details of the vehicle that was advertised, the communication with the seller and your concerns. Make it clear that you wish to return the vehicle.

Send that letter to the seller by recorded delivery, keeping a copy. Your contract is with the seller.

Request them to respond to you within 14 days with their proposals to deal with the matter. Go from there.

Don't bother wasting your time with phone calls. Get everything in writing.

If you can't get a satisfactory outcome, then go to a solicitor and sue them to include all of your costs and inconvenience.

If they want to play hardball, you have to be prepared to do the same. But you must give them the opportunity to resolve the matter first.

**** Always, always print off and keep screenshots of internet advertisements for goods and services bought online,  is the lesson. Did you SAVE your searched car in Auto Trader. If so, it will still be there.

?

Who told you there is 1 year of manufacturers warranty left.

Who imported the Car was it Skoda UK because they know, was it a UK Spec car with 2 or 3 year Manufacturers Warranty.

They know the VIN having checked for 34H5, they know the details of the purchaser / supplier.

Who did the PDI, and supplied the car,

and without a Skoda UK Service History for Service Schedule / Guidelines followed is the Manufacturers Warranty valid?

A Valid Service Record, VAT Registered Establishment, OEM Parts used etc gives a Valid Service History,

but you need that evidence of Servicing.

So who were the former Registered Keeper / Keepers. ie Who owned the car, was it a Lease Company.??

No, I didn`t save it. Its a VERY good lesson. Not just for car, but anything bought online.

Skoda UK told me it has 3 year warranty, so there is one more year left. Skoda UK told me car originally was sold by Skoda in Cardiff - but I spoke with them yesterday and they have zero information on this car, they did NOT supply it and never seen this car. Like a ghost! Its a UK car - right hand drive. I told Skoda UK number plate and they said my car is not affected by 35H5. If any recalls will happen, they will contact me via post as they now have my details on their system.

I`m wondering same - if you don`t service your car, I`m not sure Skoda would still provide warranty in case anything happens.

How many miles on the clock. ?

I'm wondering if this could have been a Hire/lease car and was serviced in house therefor no service record. I also wonder if the Vauxhall dealer picked it up from the Auctions for a quick turn around and to make quick buck. It should tell you the previous owners on the V5.

Whats the first 2 letters on the reg plate. That will tell you the license office area

34k miles.

I should be getting my V5 any day now, it will be two weeks tomorrow since I have it. Going by names of stored phones in multimedia unit, it was driven by Dutch person - there are about 10 different phone names stores and lot of them are in Dutch language.

If SKODA UK CUSTOMER SERVICES told you there is 1 Years Valid Warranty i hope that was in Writing as that has value.

An Email will do.

If it was someone on the phone it is not worth the paper not written on unless you have their name, position in the company and such.

Then even means not much if the car has not been Serviced to schedule / Guidelines.

Whats the first 2 letters of the reg plate please?

PM me the Reg Number if you want and i will see what i can see later today.

I have never had such a new car before - I was under impression UK warranty is just 2 years or XX miles, whichever comes first. Was very surprised to find out its 3 years...

Thanks, the car was first registered in Maidstone, Kent.

Wonder how it was first sold/supplied by a Dealer in wales,

  • Author

Ok, even more confusion. I guess there are no 100 Skoda dealers in Maidstone, I will get on the phone shortly to them. And how it ended up in Grimsby ?! It`s 218 miles away from Maidstone!

Not sure now - Cardiff are saying its not their car, they never seen it. Must be Maidstone then.

I`m guessing it will end up as stolen and VIN number changed :D Please not, I don`t need that.

What is it then,

1st Registered 1st May 2015, and 99 g/km & £0 VED  just that it is the 104bhp engine?    Any idea of the build date?

EDIT.

Sorry, DSG so 102 g/km. £20 VED

Probably the better car for all that.

Was the price paid good or over priced for a 104bhp compared to what you can get a an early 108bhp for.

?

DOES IT GO OK, or are you disappointed with that?

Will some cash money back from the Dealership keep you happy?

IT IS NICE IMO When you get a car that has never been at a Main Dealership & has a Remap on it still.

**Check the car out well, maybe the driver left some blow in a secret cavity, or some gold bullion.**

Yes it is 104 hbp/77 kw engine, confirmed by Skoda UK yesterday. It is £20 road tax. Where can I get build date? Any stickers on car itself? VIN decoders maybe? Finance company paid £9800 +I paid 1k to Vauxhall from my own pocket. Car itself is fine, no problems so far, I & wife like it as a car. Ideally I would like to return it due to missing service history - its a big no no for me - I would never drive a car for 34k miles without an oil/filter change. Also, I will loose money when selling it as people do not want cars without history.

Is there any information stored about servicing in car itself? Dashboard, multimedia unit? Any secret button/key/pedal combos to see any info ?

If you just get a nice Email from Skoda UK Customer Services with the Build Date and import date you will be sorted.

Best get it serviced now.

The Full Main Dealership Service on Variable @ 20,000 miles could be rubbish anyway,

Oil / Filter, look see, tick the boxes, no pollen filter etc.

Just get a Oil / Filter, Pollen, and maybe change the Air Filter done, visual inspection and you will have as much done as Skoda, VW, SEAT or Audo would have,

or not but charged for.

Plenty on the ECU if you want a VW Specialist to look at it.

I am serious about the chance of the car already remapped, or was previously, or some run a Tuning Box,

so sometimes let sleeping dogs lay.

Skoda UK say the Warranty runs for another year, sounds good to me.

If you had to claim though they might well be 'checking out the ECU'.

Think the build week and year can be de-coded off the Vin Number, thats is you can understand the Vin.
