Hellish boost surge

Featured Replies

Alright folks, can't work out whats going on with my octy RS. It's got Revo stage 1 map in, and over the last few days the turbo has started to whistle abnormally loud over .8 bar of boost, and the car surges like hell. Boost gauge flicks from 1.4bar to 0.9bar under load all the time.

Should i fit a new N75 valve, or whats going on????????? been told my turbo is about to pop, but others say the wastegate may be leaking??????????

Cheers

Si

Does it sound more like a screeching whistle like noise? (kind of like an old style kettle that you boil on a gas hob but at higher pressure through a smaller orrifice)

I have been experiencing what may be a similar noise on my Octy vRS running a standard map accompanied by surging at low rpm. At low levels of boost this screeching does not occur but when booted it occurs at around 2500rpm - 4000rpm (no boost gauge so I do not know what levels of pressure this is at)

I changed my DV from the stock Bosch valve (useless heap of junk) to a Bailey DV30 over the weekend and this seems to have cured the surging. Hopefully this will also stop my car sounding like a banshee but I may have to wait until the ECU adapts ... Time will tell on this.

On mine it sounds like high pressure air is escaping from a small orrifice - I hope it is not the turbo otherwise the wallet damage will be immense (especially if I decide that this would be the perfect time for a turbo 'upgrade' )

Thats it, like a high pitched screeching, weezey sound. May be my wastegate leaking, i'm just guessing though

If you find a solution let me know as its driving me nuts.

I thought it could be a wastegate leak as well - would this mean a shafted N75 valve or something more sinister
