Fabia rear callers wind back

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Do I need any special tool to wind back rear calipper on fabia mk2. Is there any easy way to do it?

Cheers

Yeah you need a caliper wind back tool.

They should go back ok, if they are rock solid you can try opening the bleed nipple to take some pressure off but things can get messy then! :D

Machine Mart sell a suitable one for roughly £14 and Screwfix sell a Laser Tools one for a bit more - it is just the righthand threaded ones you want.

thanks. I had to loose nipple off but it wound back ok with G clamp. Got all back in now. Cheers

I'd tend to leave off using a G-clamp on these rear pistons, there is a thread in there and it will get very annoyed about getting just pressure applied to it, that is why you should use a piston wind back tool - it has a forcing thread that is matched to the thread inside that calliper - so pushes and turns the piston in with no danger of damaging it.

Hi, i have tried to wind it back in with tool. Actually used spanner of angle grinder which fits perfectly but its not screwing back. This calipper is off vrs 2013 model. When pushed back in it seemed alright.

It does sound like some thing is not quite right with your rear calliper(s), these Girling/Lucas/TRW rear callipers with built in handbrake function have been used in many VW Group cars for a long time, first one I came across was in my 2000 VW Passat, next was wife's 2002 VW Polo, her current 2015 VW Polo still has that calliper fitted to it.  Once I found that I could not rewind one calliper on the VW Passat, but it was about 9 years old at the time, moving the handbrake lever slightly sorted that one and I managed to rewind the piston using the correct tool - though it did end up seizing by the time it was due for its next MOT so it got a refurbished calliper from TRW via ECP fitted.

You are right. I will buy a proper tool in any case. Now it's bit late cause already done it. Will have to put it on and see if works ok or not.

Use a wind back tool and a air gun if you got use of one. Mine were solid on mine and with tool and air gun the went back fine
