Goodbye Superb!

Featured Replies

After 25,600 miles my Superb delivered Christmas Eve 2015 have been traded in this weekend just gone.  So by way of a bit of a summary of 18 months of ownership,  read on.

The car: 1.4 tsi ACT 150ps manual Select Exec in magnetic brown.

Car was spec'd with a few extras including spare wheel kit, heated front screen,  colour maxidot,  led interior lighting and Canton sound.

Best bits: engine economy for sure.  Fast enough and easy to live with.  Overall stats during ownership as Fuelly summary:

Overall,  car performed without fault but had some niggles.  One service during ownership and warranty fix for door brightwork and windscreen washer.  Other bits asked to be looked at but either dismissed or just not acknowledged were poor state of rear discs, dickie nearside interior boot light and rattling rear seat up right.  Additional in later months the driver's door developed a rattle over rough surfaces except for when the window was lowered.

Driving was easy and comfortable over long stints, adaptive cruise control excellent in speed restricted motorway roadworks which go on forever.   All controls easy to use and was even rewarding to get a move on, on twisty roads so long as you chose good entry and exit lines.

Engine used a couple of litres of oil over the 25K miles.

Car cost me £300 a year to insure, around 10.5p a mile in fuel and original tyres still had plenty left.

As for trade in, it was on a 3.5 yr PCP deal based on 20k miles a year so in the end as I was 5k under on miles at trade in,  I had money left in the car compared to my outlay.  The car got traded in at Peter Cooper VW Portsmouth for a new Mk 7.5 Golf GTE.

Early days so far with the hybrid but it is certainly a great bit of technology and gives a satisfying smug feeling when crawling in traffic on electric motor power in silence.   Me and my partner will share this and I'll use my mk1 Octavia vrs for long distance work.   And sad to say that I so much more enjoy driving the Octavia compared to the out going Superb...

And that's despite it having no driver aids, the original radio cassette and in-boot cd changer and therefore no fancy in car entertainment system.   It does though have 300 horses under the bonnet which kind of makes up for its age!

Nice send off sir. GTE looks nice, you certainly seeing a few more of these on the roads these days, and the DRLs on them are very distinctive. Happy trails...

Enjoy the GTE!  That vRS looks very fresh
