How quiet is the vRS at 70mph?

Featured Replies

I am so impressed by my son's Fabia 1.2. I can't believe how good it is at motorway speeds. I am thinking about a vRS or maybe just the 100bhp diesel as the next car for my wife (although I would drive it more than her!). I like to be able to hold a converstion at 70mph and find quiet cars more relaxing. What are the Fabia diesels like at speed?

erm they are very good i find not had any trouble with noise in mine

Quieter than most, though there is some road noise depending on the surface - have a drive and see what you think

The PD100 is quieter than the vRS due to the tyres mainly. Tyre noise can vary between hardly any (good road) and tyresome (concrete road).

The vRS has wider tyres and they are low-profile so you get more noise going into the cabin.

I added some soundproofing and it's made the car more quiet for sure, but I'd personally go for a test drive, at speed the diesels are excellent cruisers.

One thing though, I'd avoid the diesels if you're not doing sufficiently long journeys, the petrols warm up nice and quick and they're pretty frugal, the 1.2 is particularly good :)

Engine wise its very quiet.

But I find the road noise to be not terribly quiet, however I am running 205/40's

Engine noise once warmed up is virtually non-existant. Tyre noise is the biggest contributor; the OEM tyres (Michelins or Continentals) are noisy. I switched to Toyos which are much quieter. You can hold a conversation even with the sunroof tilted.

Thanks for the replies. I can get an idea of the road noise from my son's 1.2 (although, of course it has skinnier tyres) - it was the engine noise I was not sure about. I agree about some tyre brands being noisier than others - I have found Dunlops to be quieter than Contis.

my vrs is for sale at a bargain price :D

As others have said, I found road noise to be a problem in my PD100 (14" wheels) at motorway speeds, although not enough to stop you hearing the radio/talking. Replacing the budget tyres with some Dunlops helped the situation too :D
