Replacing ABS Pump in Skoda Fabia

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I live in The Netherlands and have a Skoda Fabia 2004 whose ABS died the other day. Skoda have quoted €1,300 + fitting to replace it! I've looked online and found several available ranging from €50-100. I'll then need to find someone over here who will fit it for me.

I have absolutely no idea about cars. I was surprised the ABS was even in the engine which the mechanic found hysterical. I've been looking online for a like for like replacement and have found both HZ1 and HZ2 versions.

The HZ1 version is what I have at the moment. The guy from the Skoda garage said that if I had bought the car a couple of years later I wouldn't be having this problem as it was a common problem with my ABS.

My question to you is, would the HZ2 version be the newer version without these problems? It seems logical to me that it would be and that considering they're pretty much the same price it would make more sense for me to buy the HZ2. Would this fit in my car OK or would I be best getting a like for like and sticking with the HZ1?

This is the one I've got: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/SKODA-FABIA-V...wAAOSwXetZW66x

This is the one I'm considering getting as a replacement: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/ABS-PUMP-00-0...sAAOSwtnpXnwH8

Thanks for your help!

Please check the strip fuse in the fuseholder above the battery.  Many, many people have saved themselves a lot of money by checking this and finding it to be the only fault. (Even when advised otherwise by professionals).

The ABS splits into two components both can purchased new separately! One is the hydraulic block which is what the fluid is in & is silver in colour. The black plastic box is the electronics & the main PCB in this fails. I had this happen to me, & sent the unit off to be remanufactured/repaired, but the PCB had components on it which were FUBAR. So a whole new unit was ordered, I could have just got the electronic box & fitted it to the main block.

There are only a hand full of small screws which connect the two units together, but the new (or reused second hand) electronic unit will need VCDS to recode it to your car, so you need to save the coding from the old unit.

I joined here to ask a question about a different issue but I just wanted to say Wino, thank you. I had the ABS light on and was dreading the bill to replace the pump - £4 later a new fuse is in and the issue is sorted. You're a legend.

This is my first post in 9 years

I have an ABS failure on my Fabia 1.2 6Y2 BME 47Kw 64HP - 56 plate fabia Hatch  - yes 2006.

Horrendous cost  so looking for a way to get it repaired at a moderate cost?

NOTE: - My email address has changed and I can't update it to my current one as

It has changed to [email protected].    I can't change it on the Briskoda website as I've forgotten my password and a request to send me a reminder will go to my old email address which obviously I don't have any more -- wasn't willing to pay BT £7.50 a month 4 years ago to keep it!

Ignore the above twaddle about email address. Managed to o it now so back on the site.

Any info on a company that can recondition my ABS pump appreciated.

Hi - yes checked by the mechanic who usually maintains the car.

He's trusted. Son who drives it said it had been pulling to one side. Judder when braking - I experienced it when taking it to the garage.

Mechanic said tried on a rolling road and wheel speed double on one side.

Also brake peddle went to the floor - soft.
Seems to him brake sticking on one side
Mechanic advises sending it for rebuild - much cheaper than the 900 quid plus Skoda want.
Bit concerned about the two part and the electronics not working

fabdaverav had above !!

Makes me think "new calliper or wheel cylinder", not ABS pump.
