Just bought a MK3 with a 2 litre tdi engine. How do I check if the engine is the 'famous' ea 189?

The car drives well, and I have read horror stories about loss of power, increased noise etc after the correction.

If I remember correctly, the emissions software changes didnt affect the 2.0TDI O3 engines?

Its only some of the 1.6s I think.

The 03 octy 1.6/2.0 TDI CR are EA288 

@Rsrob is correct. EA189 2.0 TDI not fitted to MK3 and therefore not subject to the infamous recall / software update

Found the engine code. CRVC, which is in fact an EA 288.
