Anyone running 14" banded steels?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, as per thread title, are there any users running banded 14" steel wheels?

I have a Mk1 Fabia Estate and I'm thinking about a set of banded steels for it, but want to go with OE 14" steels as opposed to going for VAG 16" steels.

I ask as I'm unsure what I would get away with width wise? Car isn't currently lowered, but that's on the to do list!

Thanks in advance

Probably just a slightly lower profile than is fitted now. Saw a set for sale on evilbay, they were banded to 8" on all four and had 185/55R14 fitted. Not looking for any daft stretched look as the car is a well used daily.

185/60/14 is the standard size on 5.5J rims, you could go an inch wider and it would still grip ok, any more and you'll be aquaplaning everywhere unless you drive it like a milk float, stretched muppets don't care about handling or safety, for them form is firmly followed by function.

I drive somewhere between muppet and milk float

Joking aside, I'm thinking of banding to 8" all round. So at that size would 195/60R14 be a sensible size to go for?

No not sensible in any way, just style over function / safety,

but what you will be doing if you want the stretched / euro look.

So it's not sensible why exactly?

Because you live in Scotland where the roads are fun and it rains occasionally.

Stretched tyres are dangerous when driving in the rain, and if there too stretched they develop cracks and splits on the inside of the tyre. You won't know about this until you have a blow out.
