1.6 tdi with higher miles

Featured Replies

I'm on my second Octavia 3 and have run the 2.0 tdi Scout up to 17K miles so far.

My brother is looking to get a 1.6 Tdi estate as a baby chariot.

He's seen a 1.6 diesel With 80K on the clock, are there any burning issues with this car at this mileage?

He's having an RAC inspection on it but just looking for someone advice on specific details.

Thanks in advance

If you're talking about oil burning I would hope not much at all if any. I personally would call a diesel under 100k brand new

What do you call an actual "brand new" car then?!

Any car at 100k isn't going to be anything like brand new, despite it potentially having plenty of life left in it.

Like any used car it's all about condition and service history. Also check out the MoT history online to see if it had any advisories.

Read around on here about the 1.6 TDi, some don't find it economical, no where near the figures.

A 1.4 TSi 140 petrol might be better for him if he doesn't do mega miles.

My Octavia 1.6 TDI had over 80k miles when I swapped it. It had fsh and ran as sweet as a nut. 40-50 mpg running about. 65 mpg on a good run.

It was a 13 plate btw.

Does the 1.6 TDi need the VW software fix?

Mine didn't.

Thanks for that. Looks a decent example and I suspect it spent it's time on the motorway.

Advisories are pitted front discs and weeping front shocks. But as I say rac inspection is booked. Useful bargaining tools though

Nope, that's the older EA189 1.6TDI. EA288 as fitted to MK3 Octavia isn't part of the emissions recall.

I hope that there are no issues with high milage 1.6tdi's. Just bought a 64 estate with 104k on the clock. Super smooth with FSH and mostly motorway drives (from looking at POIs in the navigation - lots of hospitals so must be a pharmacy person I think. And it was a lease car.

Definitely must be motorway miles, 35k per year in city doesn`t sound realistic.

Does the 1.6 suffer from the well known TDI water pump problem? If so, check whether it's been replaced and if it hasn't try to negotiate some sort of additional warranty in case it does fail.
