Yes it sounds like more addon components to fail, bring "real world" maintenance cost to new high ... people choose diesels for more reasons than just the fuel efficiency, more the amount of miles a diesel car can rack up with also being reliable and problem free, adding 48v heating cat and a ad blue injection system, seems to equal more problems, when petrol engine cars are becoming more suitable for high miles and as efficient. 

+1   but as long as THEY don't have to pick up the bill(out of warranty)  who cares   the ultimate in "because we can" at the moment must be the Bentley diesel  with 3 turbo's,  engineering excellence  at the expense  of the customer for the benefit of the marketing dept'  but I guess Bentley owners never worry about the bill at the end of the day
