Hey Guys. 

 

Just got a 1.6tdi Black Edition Wagon, and just wondering what the best Bang for Buck cheap performance (or just cosmetic) upgrade should be. 

I come from a MK4 GTi background, so I am used to spending cash on things like an upgraded air filter etc, dump valves, remaps, suspension etc. 

 

Any recommendations???

Best bang for buck on any turbo engine is going to be a remap. Filters, exhausts etc. are going to give tiny performance gains (if any) by comparison.

 

Is there a reason you didn't just go for a bigger engine and thus more power in the first place?

 

I'd have thought the 1.6 appeals on it's claimed economy for those who aren't bothered about performance.

Avoid the nasty plug in boxes, personally I'd be looking at a remap by someone like 'Alive Tuning' as they have real experience and know what they are doing. I'm considering it for my Scout which is the 2.0tdi 184 and already pretty quick but they reckon they can get a lot more out of it safely.

I've had various remaps on various VRS models octavia and fabia  and now have as you say a nasty plug in box. Utter Rubbish. I have the DTUK box with pedal box and its by far the best map I've had . Mines a 184 also.

I base my comments on previous poor experience with plug in boxes which caused over fuelling and high exhaust gas temps. If things have moved on then I prepare to stand corrected but it still feels better to me to have a pro map it for me on a dyno

Yep. They have moved on since the crap eBay sell. Anyone considering should have a look at the site. I'm well pleased with mine.
