Rear suspension lift?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Im a mk3 (56) Scout owner. I always have a reasonable bit in the boot, and tow a fair bit. I'm struggling with the back end sitting too low all the time.

Has anyone done anything to lift or update the rear suspension?

T.I.A

coilovers or spring assisters?

Suspension air bags?

I know it has been done on a regularly heavily loaded mk2.

I have fitted coil spring assisters on my combi bought on evil bay for about £23.00

Raised the back just the right amount with no adverse effect on the handling

Yes H&R has lift kit for Octavia 4x4, it lifts 25 mm (1 inch) and the part no is 28795-1

Google it !

Eibach do a kit specifically for this problem on response vehicles which tend to be well loaded. They make one for the Octy3

Not sure it would be the cheapest option but it does the job well. You might have to go direct to Eibach

Google "Skoda uk emergency services"

I fitted the Mad Air Helper system to my brothers Octavia VRS for caravan towing duties. Not too difficult to install and it allows you to have normal suspension when not in use and then quickly inflate for when you do need the assistance by attaching a pump and quickly inflating them via a valve in the boot.

The heavier duty springs and assisters tend to leave the back end harsh when not loaded and stuck up in the air pushing more of the cars weight to the front.

If you search my posts for last year, you will find details when I fitted them.

I called Eibach and was told the "emergency services" kit was not listed and was probably factory fit only

I have known it fitted aftermarket to a couple of standard cars (non-scout) but it was a while ago, I find sometimes you have to be a bit persistent with these things, the first person you speak to is not always the one that can/will give you the right info.

I believe the "blue light kit" was only a version of the "Pro lift kit" painted blue but that is not listed for the MQB either,  does not necessarily mean it is not available. Only thing is, it was not available for the 4x4 (at the time) so no good for the OP anyway now I look

However as @norsko says above H&R do them although you won't find them officially listed many places either a lot of these things do take a bit of digging.

THank you everyone, these are some great options, which I shall now investigate :)

i like the idea of the air, but in reality the vehicle always has a good load in it, even with the boot empty, so I suspect an assistance kit will be the way forward :)

If you go the air route don't bother with the built in compressor options as you can inflate them very quickly by hand. You can vary the pressure too to suit your requirements from a loaded to boot to fully loaded and dragging a caravan too. No need to worry about over inflation either as they have a blow off valve so simply inflate to the excess is blown off and job done for a full load.

OK so ive googled this, and it comes back as a suspension lowering kit at +25mm.  Is that just that they are always called lowering kits, but the +25 is the essential bit, or am I looking at the wrong thing?  And this seems to be a four spring kit, so is going to lift the front too?

Thanks.
