Do the dip beams need upgrading?

Featured Replies

Just picked up a new 1.2 TSI Monte Carlo Estate in Rally green.

Now before my Yeti (HID lights), I had a 2010 Fabia 2 Scout, and the dips were abysmal, although the mains were pretty good.  I changed the dips only for Phillips extreme vision and was very happy with the results.  Now I haven't driven the Monte in the dark yet, so do think this something I need to do again? TIA.

General consensus is yes

I personally don't have an issue with them and I live deep in the sticks so to speak and drive down many an unlit country road

When one of the bulbs gives up the ghost I'll replace them both with something uprated night breakers or Phillips racing vision

Many thanks Mal.

Changing the bulbs though is a skill acquired at the expense of scrapped knuckles and much loss of good humour! There are a few thread on here related to headlamps bulbs, I've had three attempts now and not succeeded. As an FYI, there are removable covers in the plastic wheel arch liners that give access to the headlamp bulbs once the rubber water-proof cover is removed. Drivers side is not so bad for access but passenger side is really difficult due to the battery. removing battery helps.

I may have not checked well enough, but is there an actual guide on how to replace high and low beams?

I have a 2015 Fabia hatch 1.2 SEL two winters ago I struggled with the the dim dipped headlights till last year I had night breakers fitted by the garage that serviced my old Skoda and they made a big difference. They were brighter and lit the road ahead at a longer distance but bewarned people on this website who fitted them said they were piggs to fit. My garage did mine for the price of the bulbs. I've not seen a guide for normal reflector headlamps, the standard fitment for S and SE models, there is one for projector headlamps, but they are so much easier as its a simple 90 degree twist, pull out, replace and twist. There is a useful thread with more info and links here https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/418607-another-headlight-thread/, which has some links that might be useful.

The Polo 6R link is for projector headlamps, and they just doing 3 Torx screws allowing the whole unit to be removed, don't know if that works for reflector headlamps, but there is a "Catch 22" to get the headlamp unit out the cable connector has to be removed and the reason you'd want to remove the headlamp unit is to make it easier to remove the cable connector - grrr ....
