coolant issue!

Featured Replies

hey guys need help, basically it was doing it once every few weeks not its once every two days, the coolant drops low after the cars been running and the coolant light comes on saying it's low but when I release the pressure it goes back up maybe not to were it should be but above minimum any ideas what the issue could be??

Air in the system. Start engine with cap off and wait for it to warm up fully. Top up coolant as it needs it then re fit cap and air should have been bled out. Think its normal for the level to vary as the engine is run and stopped but not that much

Head gasket. Sorry.

If you need to refil it evry few days check the oil filing cap for residue because it might be a serious issie with the head gasket

so this is a costly job by the sounds of things? and thanks for the feedback, just checked my oil on the dipstick and it does look a little watered down?

Ye its the labour for this the gasket is almost done by the sound of it which means your mixing coolant with oil, suggest you take care of this since its a serious issue with the motor because if it does blow they will need to clean the motor on the inside as well.

You can't 'water' oil down since they won't mix, I wouldn't expect to see water in the oil on a PD engine, I expect the coolant tank to be pressurised even when the engine is stone cold, if you pop the cap and gas hisses out when the engine is cold then your head gasket has definitely failed.
