Passenger window - Drivers side switch

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just some quick background. I recently purchased a 2009 MK2 Fabia 1.2. It was sold with window issues. First issue was the drivers side switch for both drivers and passenger windows didn't work very well, and was very intermittent. They looked tatty too. I purchased and fitted a new switch. I also cleaned and lubricated the rubber seals as read on the forum that this can cause the intermittent issues. This has now resolved the drivers window issue and the drivers switch works for the drivers side window. The passenger switch on the passenger door also works fine.

However the issue I now have is the the passenger switch on the drivers door isn't working at all. The only thing that does sometimes happen is if the passenger window is down, by pressing the passenger switch down on the drivers door it makes the passenger window go up. I tried pressing it up to see if it would make the window goes down but it doesnt

Any tips on getting the passenger window to work using the drivers door switch?

Thanks

Cam

Check for broken/breaking wires in the door bellows first as they sometimes snap. They may contact intermittently. If you replaces BOTH switches, were they new, or used? Genuine or copies?

Ok will check for broken wires as soon as it decides to be summer again haha. The switches were of Ebay so I think not genuine. Think there could be an issue with the switch itself...? I didn't want to request a replacement incase it was something else causing the issue

I guess it will also light up red instead of green, then. Most do as per VW/SEAT cars. Hard to know about a faulty switch without trying it in another vehicle to test and testing a known working one in your car!

I haven't checked the light up colour yet, yeah it's difficult. I'll try the broken wire route you mentioned before and see if that highlights anything. If the wires are broken which part do I need to get?

Mostly, people just re-join them, either with a connector, or solder in an additional bit of wire, giving a little more length and some heat shrink wrap (Usually sleeves that slide over the wire, heated by hair dryer to shrink. Pick the smallest size that will slide on). Or insulating tape.
