Superb and head unit change

Featured Replies

Has anyone changed a headunit in an 05 Superb?

Got to take the symphony unit out (have the broken hacksaw blade already  ) .....putting a blaupunkt woodstock dab unit in, so apart from routing the new ariel cable (dab) do I have to alter the permanant live/switched live over (what wire to where if I do) and do I need an ariel signal booster.

Also I can vaugley remember something in a thread once about changing the head unit meant that a pin on the vag com changed voltage....is there anything I can do to put this right.

Thanks in advance

Rob

If its like the octy, you will need a signal booster. Best bet is to buy the VW wiring kit from bluspot.co.uk, this has everything you need including the gubbins to swap the power and also a connection for your DAB powered antenna.

Got the wiring adaptor but there are less wires in it than on the plugs...I know the green/white/grey/purple are the speaker wires so not bothered about those but what wires do I need to have and which ones need swapping over (switched/ permanant live) there are 7 wires on the plug going in but only four on the adaptor......so if someone can tell me which is which or has a wiring diagram for the radio I would be very grateful

Forgot to add I plugged it straight in with no adaptor and the car alarm wouldn't work...so took it back out again

IIRC but please get someone else to confirm ;) the permanent 12V and switched by ignition 12V lines are switched on VAG cars compared to 'standard' - I'm assuming that if they're the wrong way around the K-line gets messed up, which in turn apparently causes that alarlm not activating thing.

I'm sure someone who knows for sure will come along though (I hope )

That makes sense to me and if I can find out which is the switched live I could in theory connect the ariel amp/adaptor to that ?

Does anyone know what wire colours I swap over to get it working......got the radio and a hole in the dash board  but if I plug the radio in the central locking/alrm doesn't work.......and is it ok to put the wire for the ariel adaptor in the with switched live wire

The ariel booster should be plugged into the "remote" lead, which is the blue one.

On my Pioneer loom, the red and yellow cables were on bullet connectors, and these represented the ignition and perm lives, they were a doddle to swap.

If you get the VAG specific lead for the blaupunkt you should not need to swop any wires - it is already done on the lead. You will soon know if the wires are swopped - you will have to keep putting in the radio code every time you switch the ignition back on.

If you have the comfort of elegance car you will also loose the multidot display radio info, the use of the steering wheel radio controls and the use of the 6 disc changer. You can sort out the CD changer with an adaptor from Skoda - but they know how to charge for it.

I could not get anybody to supply a lead to reconnect the multidot and steering wheel. Several of them had leads that appeared to maybe do it, but when I asked them, and the makers of the leads all of them admitted it probably would not work on the Superb.

Ended up taking out the Blaupunkt unit and refitting original.

Mines a classic so no multidot or wheel controls just a problem I think with the Gala lead .....radio keeps momentarily shutting off and the drivers door locks every now and again

Just a thought, has anyone seen ...(I think it was VrsSi who used to do the ice installs for a living) on Briskoda lately ....if I can't sort my ice out maybe he or his company could

Anyone ?

can I disconnrct the GALA wire and will that stop the cutting out and door locking

Don't see why not, may stop speed adusting volume from working, but surely thats all...

If it doesn't work, plug it in again. The worst that can happen is it will log a fault code....

Have been up to my armpits in the dashboard for a few hours and I think it's working (Blaupunkt Woodstock) DAB radio mp3/CD and Sd card ...very nice, sounds good, so much better than the Symphony, but I think I will need a pilots license to drive it :D

Piccie soon

Have you got your old Symphony unit for sale ?

I have just bought a 2001 Fabia, but it only has a casette radio :(

I am assuming the Octavia one will fit straight into a Fabia (same size etc) ?

Thanks - JIM

Sorry Jim

But I shall hang on to it and put it back in when the car goes.......cars always seem to sell better when they look original
