Leather Heated Seat Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This is my first retrofit attempt and I'm a noob to all this. I have taken the plunge and wanted to share with you where I'm up to and just to make sure I'm on the right track.

I have had some help already and it wouldn't have been possible with Eddie's help.

I have fitted the heating elements into the seats, wired them up and put them into the car.

I'm working using this info:

"Fitting info for wiring loom from Eddie-NL

Red Wire = Fusebox constant 12v

Brown = Ground

wire from (Pin 1) ten pin plug (one with more wires) goes to pin 21 on BCM plug B

wire from (Pin2 ) pin 10 on Climatronic T20

wire from (Pin 7 ) pin 11 on Climatronic T20"

I'm having trouble wiring and I want to make sure that I am on the right track. I found the ground point under the steering wheel and earthed both seats to it.

The pins for climatronic don't fit the correct plug and the one for the bcm doesn't fit. I'm guessing these need snipping off and replacing?

The 12v wire I have plugged into the fuse box. I just need to know where and how to get power to it.

Thanks for help in advance!

Pins for the climatronic and BCM should just plug into the relevant blank holes on the multi pin plugs. Where did you get your loom from?

Loom was from http://www.skodateile.cz it should have fit but only the fuse wire fits. It was an original factory loom.

The crimped ends will not go all the way into the pins for bcm and climatronic. I'll post a picture of the end when I get home.

It was hard to get a picture but that's the one that's supposed to go the bcm the ones to the climatronic are the same

They look like the right ones, as far as I recall (from when I did my footwell lights) they will only fit one way and took a bit of effort to push all the way home

Looks like a nice retrofit. I see you also have the Blackline, would you mind sharing how difficult was it to remove the leather trim from the seat?

Yeah I looked and orientated but I was afraid of snapping the ends. I'll try and slot them in and be braver

Singh it's not too bad for someone who's never done it before. Just make sure you have plenty of time and don't rush. Long nose pliers are a god send it's virtually impossible without them. Passenger seat took me a few hours. Driver's seat took me a couple of hours. I couldn't have done it without Eddie's guide. I didn't break any clips in the end although I ordered extras. Wiring wasn't too bad either I just followed the side of the airbag. Use Eddie's guide and I'll try and answer any of your questions

I put the fuse line in to position 38 just because it was easier to get to. I know that I should tap into a 12v constant instead of an ignition live. Where should I piggy back from?

If anyone is following this I got it all to work. I made some noob mistakes and everything now makes sense.

In the fusebox there are certain powered locations. Position 38 isn't powered. I moved the power to position 37 which is powered. The MK3 Octavia position 38 in the fusebox is for rear heated seats.

I also went back and loom taped all the wiring and simplified everything. I worked out the best route for all the cabling. I can tell anyone who wants to know just PM me.

As far as the pins not fitting it was a noob mistake. I didn't release the pin release from the sockets. Again I can share by PM.

Nice one, you will have felt the benefit of these recently. Do they switch off automatically or manually. I ask because mine get so hot that I turn them off after 5-10 minutes even if it's at the lowest settng.

The seats are not on a timer so need switching off manually

On my MK2 it'll stay on full power for 10 minutes then drop to a power level, I believe it's a setting VCDS can change.

Not sure if your MK3 will have the same setting @Redboy.

Definitely best retrofit so far. As dilksie said need to turn them off. I don't know whether it's in my head or not but the more I use them the more I feel like I'm getting better heat out of them.

Langers I tried looking for it but couldn't find it. I tried enabling heating memory for 10 mins in mine but it'll only do it for the driver's seat and it'll remember it permanently. It's not a bad thing in this weather though

@Andy230 - got an autoscan?

Both driver and passenger seats remember the last setting and do the 10 minute power reduction from 3 to 2 bars. I updated the SW in my  climate panel which may have add this...

Looks like that's a much older unit. I don't think it'll update to the new software like mine did as it's ID is quite different.

It was from an '09 superb I think. Eddie suggested another but I wasn't confident at swapping buttons over from my unit at the time. I wonder if it can be updated
