Airbag & steering electrics broken: cost for Slip Ring repair?

Featured Replies

Hi. 2012 Octavia airbag light went on last week and all electrics in the steering wheel are broken (including the horn).

I had a service scheduled anyway. It's with a main Skoda dealer. They've said it's the Slip Ring for the airbag and I'm being quoted €560 to carry out the repair.

Is this price reasonable?

The slip ring can be quite expensive since it comes together with control module for your year model. Though i am not sure how costly i can be exactly, but i assume there is a great deal of money you will pay for the change to the dealer too.

You can consider to change it yourself if you are handy. Seems to be not so hard process.

Maybe you can read through the cruise control retrofitting post, which covers basically same steps as you need to carry out.

Wrong information about stalks

£90-£220

Find out what part you have now and find one one ebay or from a breakers yard.

You will have either a 5K0 953 549 variant or a 5K0 953 569 variant so check before buying
