Fitting point single post jack

Featured Replies

Warning sign low pressure on front left tyre. Blue the tyre up to get us back to our hotel. Pulled out the jack and felt for a jacking point that would fit the v shaped head of the jack nothing felt obvious. Looked on youtube the vw jack head looked different. Mine has a v shaped block that's metal lined  Joe

Last time I changed a wheel on a car it came with a scissor jack.

The jacking point is marked on the bottom of the side skirt, should directly behind that on the chassis....

The V shaped groove in the jack goes onto the lip under the sill. Its marked as mentioned above. Theres a sort of triangle shape pointing down at the place you put it.

I guess you checked the tyre pressure first. The only time I had a tyre pressure warning was after crossing the Forth road bridge where there is a rubber strip every 20 yards or so, and you get the repetitive thump-thump effect as you cross the bridge. The warning came on and I checked the pressures when I could, and there was no problem. I reset the warning and all was well. I believe the warning is generated when the four wheels are not all rotating at the same speed so if any wheel is skipping, for example over the rubber strips on a bridge or any bumpy road surface, the warning comes up. I would always check the tyre pressures now before any other action.

Checked the pressure with the electric pump I carry in the car it didn't seem that low but topped it up anyway then reset the cars settings. Did a visual check of the tyre back at the hotel by putting car on hard lock moving the tyre quarter turns on the ground nothing obvious.

Will check pressure in the morning if not happy will take the car in to garage before driving home better than putting the spare on and being  restricted to 50mph Joe

Hey Joe, had you been driving over a particularly bumpy surface prior to the warning? I would like to know if it is a common effect. I think there is a warning in the handbook about bumpy roads, but I have not read it for the last two years. It is the sort of thing that really worries you when you have got 250 miles to go before you reach your destination.

I had a low pressure warning with my wife's August 2015 Polo some months back, gave me a fright as it was the first warning that any of these systems had given me. Playing safe, I left the motorway as soon as possible and parked up, all tyres looked okay so I reset the TPMS with a view that if there was a slow leak, the system would warn me again soonish, no more trouble, drove back home, checked all tyre pressures, all were okay!  A month or so ago, same thing with my February S4, again, a bit of a shock but I was about 0.5miles from home so I drove home slowly, same thing, all tyre pressures okay so I reset the TPMS, so far so good.

These systems are handy and can give you a quick and early warning of a deflating tyre, unfortunately, they can, and it seems do, give out false warnings, maybe not quite what I had expected!

My car tyre had lost pressure overnight so took it to local National Tyres who found a nail in the centre of tread which they repaired for £15.50 Back home looked for markers on the  for the jacking point and could only find them by running my hand along the sill and felt a small indentation opposite the jacking point. In hindsight I should have sorted this out when I got the car and not waited till I needed to know. Joe

I had a very slow puncture and the system picked it up nicely. Definitely worth having- I wouldn't have realised for quite a while otherwise.

The good thing is it tells you which tyre has lost pressure. Be interesting to know if a bulb fails it tells you which one gone on my old Skoda  you had to work it out for yourself  Joe

I've a feeling that that "rubber" strip is actually the steel end/edge of the sections of roadway, very annoying, but okay as long as that bridge stays up, new one will open very soon!

Yep it tells you which bulb has failed, my rear right brake light had faulted and it told me exactly that. "Simply Clever" :D

Did you or the garage replace the bulb, if you did, how easy was it  Joe

Easy with the right  plastic removal tool for the lens unit, Joe.

Have had a bulb go in each rear lens.

Could not for the life of me, pull the things out ( having removed the two visible screws ).

Someone else on here recommended these : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01ITI9ZJ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(( there's another thread about this on here somewhere ))

Slip plastic tool in at the side, between wing and lens, and a sharp, swift tug, and lens unit pops out. Easy peasy. Bulb holders just twist out then

I was going to say "sorry to OP" - and just realised you were the OP, Joe !  Sorry for doing an off-topic, then !!  It's all your fault, Joe! :D
