SD card reader.

Featured Replies

Please excuse my ignorance, but I've just got a 16 gig sd card for putting my music on for playing in the Monte.  This is where my lack of knowledge kicked it when  I realised that I needed something to attach the sd card to the computer.  Been looking online for a suitable device and come up with many sd card readers ranging from a couple of quid to about fifty.

Logic tells me I need a sd card "writer" 'cos that's what I need to do, to put the music on the sd card. So do readers actually write as well?  If so, would someone kindly recommend a suitable item. Don't want to spend much as it is only going to be used very rarely as the 16gig card will take all my music. Many thanks.

The readers will also write so just go for the cheapest!

Once plugged into the computer, either in a built in slot, or via a usb adapter, it acts like any other drive so you just drop the files into it which you want to use in the car.

Works for me if each album is in its own folder on the sd card.

Are you sure you don't already have one? There can't be many recent laptops which don't have a sd card slot. My home built and much upgraded tower desktop has an added unit for all sorts of different cards, usb etc, which didn't cost me very much and was easy to install.

Yes, sure, my 2012tower pc running W7 has a dvd drive only. I have a currys and maplins not too far away, I'll see what they have.

Thank you both.

I have used multi card readers from Poundland (other pound shops are available) with good results.

On the other hand, I bought a cheapo from a major online retailer and it was utter garbage.

Be aware there's good and bad out there!

Had a look at both Maplin & Curry/Pc World sites and both seem to stock the same items at same price. Difference I've found if not in stock is that Curry's are almost next day ,whereas Maplin takes a few . ( Delivery to store )

Nothing wrong with the ones from the poundshop. SD card read is a really simple thing unless you're looking for powered USB etc to go with it.

From tone of OP's post, I think he was trying to put on and take off music. Would the £land one do that?

Yeah no bother. Cables can be a bit short on the cheap ones but that's all.

Got a "puremedia" reader from currys. Just plugs into the usb and has done the job perfectly. Thanks for all your input folks.
