Key programming in North London

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

New here but been reading around a lot in prep for the new superb I've just purchased (2.0 TDI 170 Elegance estate) and have just found out that my spare key fob is not recognised by the car, Maxidot states Key not found and remote buttons do not unlock/lock.

Anyone know of a decent place near to North London / Potters Bar that can do it, from what I've read on here it's either the stealers (as it's an original key I think) or an independent specialist, but haven't yet found one with any info on key programming other than remote locksmith types. If anyone has any tips for a reliable place near me it would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Not wanting to be a merchant of doom but do you trust the seller? It is a known mo to sell a car with two keys, one not for the car, whilst keeping the true spare key in order to steal your car later. If you've any doubts I'd suggest having both of the keys you have now reprogrammed.

Welcome and congrats on the new car!

Is the battery in the second key dead? Might just need replacing...?

Cheers guys.....

Brookfold1 - They are 240 miles away so hopefully far enough to not pop round with another spare :) however, agreed, any other keys will be de-programmed as soon as I can find someone that can / will do it and add my other key (which works in the door lock and ignition barrel so the cut key is ok)

TheRobink - Thank you! that was my first thought, so swapped the battery went out to the call all happy and expectant and then miserable again when realising the fob wouldn't unlock and maxidot tells me it doesn't know the key :(

There's a VAG specialist about half hour down the road that I may call if I can't find anyone closer as I won't be able to get to them until the weekend anyway, so if there are any other options I'm all ears.

Thanks
