reliability survey

Featured Replies

I was reading a small article in Autocar the other day where they were talking to a breakdown guy. His advice if you want reliability was to buy Japanese but as a side note he said he had never had to recover a Skoda.

So I was wondering how many of you have broke down in your Skoda and needed to be recovered?

AAHHH nuts it was meant to be a poll.

Done it all wrong

On the old Y-reg Fabia TDi at around 40-50k (can't remember excatly what) the clutch pedal fell to bits while changing gear at a traffic light junction  good job wasn't a roundabout - so had to be towed to the garage by the AA and car in for two days while the whole assembly was ordered and replaced.

On the vRS had to have the AA man out last year to attend to the car alarm going off every few minutes - faulty bonnet switch (just pulled the connector off), so not recovered per se. He did comment that it was unusual to be called out to a Skoda!

My old Octy tdi90 needed recovering, when the fuel pump relay packed up.

:) Probably tempting fate, but I've been driving rear engined Skodas for 16 years now and I only ever needed towing in once. Mind you, I broke the car proprerly, I was in my old Rapid and there were some pretty awful engine noises, followed by the rear wheels locking up till I pressed the clutch, loads of smoke and a pool of oil. A conrod had gone through both sides of the block!! My wife was carrying a 12 inch birthday cake and dropped it on the floor in fright, and one of my 3 kids in the back was so scared she threw up everywhere! A night to remember, it was about midnight. :D:thumbup:

not many then. :D

Just the once in 74k miles.

The clutch master cylinder failed on a very cold morning. I'd driven about 2 miles before the pedal hit the carpet

Snap! Except mine went on a roundabout ... in the rain ... and the cold  A minute later and I would have been on the M3 so I guess it could have been worse, but I was pretty unimpressed that it failed on a 3 year old average mileage car. :(
