Possible MOT Fail

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience of the below issue and if My car will fail an MOT because of it.

Currently the passenger side wing mirror indicator is working however the end LED's are not lighting up, its noticeable if you put the hazards on but not as much if the indicator is on for passenger side only.

My question is would this be an MOT fail as the indicator works?

I know the part is only about £20 and I can fit it myself however I have only just noticed it and My car is in for MOT on Friday then we are off on holiday at the weekend so time is tight.

The car is going to a Skoda dealership for its MOT as I have the MOT cover ( MOT cover wont cover the wing mirror indicator ) so would be a fortune for them to supply and fit.

If the car was going into My Independent i'd be tempted to risk it going through and hope its missed.

Any advice appreciated.

Mine also has an LED out and I got an advisory for it:

- Offside Side repeater damaged, but still visible from a reasonable distance (1.4.A.2e)

Is it worth going to the dealer doing the test and ask them before presenting it? If you can of course, that way you should have time to source and get it replaced first if needed.

Thanks for the response guys.

@langers2k that's what I would expect from my independent, they are usually pretty fair like that although I'm expecting a straight fail from the steelers.

@octyal I'm afraid I don't have time with work the rest of this week, I might mention it as I go in although sort of feel I am alerting them to it and without the heads up they may miss it or as langers2k says give an advisory.

If its missed or an advisory it will be getting replaced once I get back off holiday anyway but don't want to be in a position where I have to pay the steelers to supply and fit just to get it through so we can go on holiday.

I would not care but I went over the car at the weekend but either missed it or its just happened, I only noticed it as I had my hazards on this morning and noticed a difference in a reflection.

My MOT was at the dealers :)

Ah, that's good to know, they should all sing from the same Hymm sheet.

I'm currently searching for someone who can do a next day delivery on the LED strip, if I find one I will order it any way and if its not here in time risk it.

It should pass with an advisory as more then 50% of the side repeater is working (This rule apply's to multi bulb or multi LED fittings, be a light or indicator/side repeater.) If it fails then the tester is not applying the info (rules) in the tester manual proparly. MOT testing is my day job and has been for the last 14 years.

Thanks for that @Julian1001 that is really good to know and ties in with what @langers2k was saying about his.

I assuming if they fail it I can challenge it advising them to check the tester manual as there is more than 50% of the LED's working?

I think I have sorted getting a replacement on a 24hr delivery so fingers crossed it will be here on time and it wont be an issue,  but if not I'll happily take and advisory and fix it after our Hols.

Yes u can, if the tester come's back and says we have not got a copy of the tester's manual then again he is wrong as it's linked to it on the log in page of the MOT testing website (which ALL testers have to use) and you ask for appeal form, you simply fill it in and send to the address marked with the full test fee (which u get back if u win the appeal) you must NOT repair the fail items though untill after the appeal test has been carried out.
