First service

Featured Replies

Yo yo, hello guys, its been a while since I was last here.

So I've recently got a message from my dealer (Blade Skoda) that my first service is due.

The car is only 10 months old though, is this right?

Also like a muppet I completely forgot to sort out a service plan, does anyone know how to get a decent deal on servicing?

I'd ignore the dealer and go with what your car is saying; a message will pop-up alerting you a service is needed.

You can access this information before it makes you aware by going through the infotainment system; follow the steps in the manual - it will then say X miles until service.

May give you a month or two grace

Mine had its first service this week after the car said it needed some TLC. Has covered just over 9000 miles so a little short of the 10,000 miles expected. It's not a year old until January.

Thanks guys.

I'll take a look at the millage-to-service thingy when I go and clean it out later.

I ignore both and just take it on its anniversary each year (I do low mileage).

My interpretation of the advice which is usually given here is to service every year if you do less than 20000 miles pa, or to service when the car tells you to if you do high mileage.

Recently kind of switched from average millage (~10k) to high millage as the carpool I was in got disbanded. I'll see what the readout says and if it isn't too far off I'll wait for the full 12 months.

Ignore the dealer, given some of the threads here on service interval knowledge it's likely that they know less about your car than you do.

You car will be set to either fixed (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) or variable (up to 20,000 miles or 2 years depending on how the car is driven).

Using the radio head unit you can check the number of miles / days left to the next service in one of the menu's (vehicle status I think).

A fixed (minor) service is £149 and a variable (major) service is £269 from a franchised main dealer. Don't pay more.

I'm pretty sure even with a variable service plan my car recommends an "inspection" every 365 days.

Maybe an idea next time you are in the car to check for sure what it shows.   Humans set the service indicators and can reset them,  and owners/ drivers can chose what they want for servicing and pay their hard earned cash money for. No need to have some technician in a dealership decide how much servicing you pay for.  Unless the car is rented then you might be obliged to fixed or variable and inspections.

The inspection service is a rouse by Skoda UK to get you into their dealer network.

Nothing is done, its purely a visual check, pretty similar to one of those free 'winter 30 point checks' that Kwik-Fit and Halfords use to get your car up on their ramps and attempt to justify some unnecessary work.

I got one of them free inspections when they took it in for some warranty work. A video was provided showing the tire tread depth with the car in the air. Mind you, it was a good chance to get a look at the sports exhaust. I think the middle muffler is a lot smaller as the main difference.

Anyways, a quick update on this; the car didn't think it needed a service yet, another 1100 miles it popped up on the display this evening. I called a dealer this morning to book it in for its first service. The guy seemed surprised I was booking it in before 1 year but I told him it was sitting on 12,000+. He told me to wait for the car to indicate it needed a service before booking one.

I guess I'll wait then.
