Hi all.  I picked up my new Superb a week ago (2.0tdi SE Business with kessy, canton, rear led pack and rear wiper), swapping from a b8 passat that i've had on lease for 2 years.   Was very happy with the passat, apart from the 1.6tdi engine, which I hated!

I used to be a member of this forum when I had my Fabia VRS a few years ago, but think my id was lost when the form was rebuilt some time back.  I've also got an Octavia 2 which I've had since new for 12 years now, so not exactly new to the Skoda family.

Anyway have done around 400 miles in the last week on a wide variety of roads and am really pleased with the Superb.  Was a bit concerned that the 'refinement' might not be as good as the passat, but should not have worried.   The Superb is quiet, comfortable and feels just as refined as the passat.

So by way of a comparison (as I searched for a comparison before choosing the Superb and couldn't find one), here are my views on Passat vs Superb:

Pros:

  • 2.0tdi engine in Superb is so much better than the 1.6 in the Passat.  I know I could have got the 2.0tdi in the passat too, but not within my company lease budget.
  • Infotainment is better.  Bigger screen and overall seems faster, especially when using with android auto.  Oh how I love the app button to go direct to android auto (was three clicks in the passat)!
  • Looks.  Subjective I know but I think the Superb looks more modern, sharper than the Passat.
  • Canton sounds good, especially for the price.  I think the VW equivalent Dynaudio is ~£1.8k as an option!
  • Auto climate control.  For some crazy reason which I didn't realise when I ordered, the Passat only has manual aircon as standard on the SE Business spec that I had.  Auto was another £800 option.  Stupid on a business spec car.

Cons:

  • I think road noise and ride quality are just slightly lower in the Superb, although certainly not enough to worry about.  Maybe more insulation in the Passat around the suspension?
  • No footrest on the right of the accelerator pedal.. wtf!!??   For a car which is a comfortable motorway cruiser, this seems like a crazy miss from Skoda.  Means when using cruise you have to have your foot on the floor...which annoys me at least :)
  • None of the lighting is LED which it is on the Passat.   I know you can change it, but seems like a cheap thing to include as standard, especially on a business focused trim level.
  • What is the LED rear pack that I paid £150 for?   Please don't tell me its just the two red strips on the boot?  If so, omg...

I agree about the lack of footrest for the right foot. Having said that, I find that when resting my left foot on the foot rest, I get pains in the back of my leg on journeys of 1+ hours.

My last Passat (B7) had more legroom than the Superb - and the B8 Passat, of which I have driven a few.

I have now now started resting my left foot on the floor, behind the brake pedal (DSG).

Glad to hear you're happy with it, perfect for a business lease car.  Totally agree about the lack of footrest, it can be annoying after a while on the motorway.  The Superb does look sharper alright and you need to look very closely indeed to pick into the finer details with the Passat

I don't have a footrest in the Audi A3. When I had a Passat GTE for a 3 day test drive I immediately noticed and used the footrest on motorways. I then thought.... I don't think the Superb had that so went to the local dealer. And indeed it doesn't.

I think I've only had a footrest to the right of the accelerator pedal in VW cars. Maybe a right hand drive conversion thing and only VW seems to think of it.

my MK2 MY11 Octavia RS had footrests for the driver - for both left and right legs :)

i do miss it in the Superb as it only has just the one for the left leg :(

Never had a footrest on the right and to be honest it keeps my foot nearer the brake in case I need it.

......and yes the LED high pack just adds lit red areas into the complete tail light assemblies.  Standard on my L&K.

£150 seems a little OTT!
