iPhone cable query

Featured Replies

I tried to connect my iphone via the usb socket on the dash using and USB-Lightning cable to play some music. The first one I tried was fine but another did not work (it would charge but not connect data) However that same cable will connect the iPhone to my laptop and transfer pictures and itunes etc. So it is fully connected to all 4 USB pins

I know I could use Bluetooth instead but I want to charge the phone not drain the battery.

Is there any known history of Skodas being fussy on USB cables?

TIA

I believe it has to be genuine Apple.

Thanks,

I've now tried a third cable and a genuine apple works, 1 unbranded works and another unbranded does not work.

I wonder how the car differentiates between cables? All 4 ways are connected in the non working cable it is passes data to and from my laptop perfectly.

Grrr!

I had a similar problem when. I first got the Octavia - my iPhone would charge, but I couldn't get the rest of the functions to work.  I bought a new cable off eBay and tried that - it would work for about half an hour, then cut out and it would stop charging about at about 95% and the 'phone would constantly reset, so I assumed it was a Skoda problem.

I went back to my dealer and he picked up on it right away - non-Apple cable.

I had the genuine Apple cable in the bedroom where I just used it to charge the 'phone overnight, so swapped the cables and all was well.

There is a chip in those cables, so it's not a simple matter of the cable wiring.

Might be worth trying an Amazon Basics Lightning cable, they claim 100% compatibility as they have the chip & I use them without any problems for backing up, updating, etc. my iPhone.

Thanks Match, I've got some on order now claiming MFi certification.

If apple really want their own (or at least MFi) leads to be used then I'm surprised that my "non working in car" lead is 100% happy with iTunes - It's the latest version (12.1.3.6) that will run on my  PC. You would think that the software in iTunes would be looking for the chip in the lead. Unusual for apple to miss a trick!

Interestingly I had a genuine apple cable stop working in the car but worked okay with my PC.

Just to follow up on this thread. I started looking for some MFi compliant cables and came across ebay item  282408722632

99p each, 3 for the price of two. UK stockist couple of days delivery.

Mine arrived today and work perfectly with the car.

I pass this on simply as a happy customer and hope it might be of interest and that it does not contravene any rules.

Mods feel free to delete if it does.
