ASG Servicing...

Featured Replies

My mother has a 2013 Citigo with the ASG gearbox. Can anyone tell me if the gearbox itself is subject to a service schedule and what it might be? I've tried searching and can find all the other service items but seemingly nothing on the ASG itself....

Also, it is four years old this year - it appears that the timing belt and water pump are recommended - however, it has only done about 11000 miles! Seems a bit like overkill to need a new belt on that mileage? I was thinking of putting it off at least another 12 months?

Thanks

I don't know about the gearbox service, but the timing belt I can help with.

The four year timeframe is to do with the material that the timing belt degrading rather than any distance travelled. It cracks and splits over time just like tyres do, and it's subject to large temperature ranges being heated quickly when the engine starts and cooled slowly when it stops. As well as natural material wear and other aging.

The four years is a safety net.  It couId last 6 years with the mileage your mum does, but it did last less. It is up to you weather you change it or not, but it is your mum's risk.

& it can last a lifetime if maybe garaged, not in a country with extreme climates and is checked to see if there is any degradation of the belt.

As to the type of servicing needed in a car doing such low mileage, best talk with a Mechanic or Tech that is not just wanting work but to keep the car going safely and inexpensively.

?

Was the brake fluid changed first after 3 years, or was it checked for H2o in it?

Yes, always serviced at main dealer and yes brake fluid done...

My mother was quoted £279 or similar when she phoned them but I'm guessing they didn't take into account that it was an ASG and they probably haven't cottoned on to fact that belt may also be due...

I'm inclined on her low mileage to suggest that the belt be left for another year...

You phoned a Service Desk and they go by what the computer says and what they want to charge,

maybe time to use a good Independent Establishment and get Servicing & Maintenance, wheel off, brakes cleaned out etc,

and to talk with a mechanic not a receptionist.

?

So did you ask about the ASG servicing or not since there is no Service Schedule / Guidelines,

and did the Service Desk person know anything about a ASG?

So as an ASG owner and with full service experience i can advise the following....

Gearbox - dependant on the position of the clutch activator it may need a re-teach, this is normal on automated box and the re-teach is consistan with the clutch wear and tear. On 11,000miles i wouldn't expect much wear.... but maybe your mother has a secret past time at Santa Pod??!! :)

The general servicing is very painless and similar to the manual citigo. So in terms of timing belt and water pump I am unsure this is really needed unless as ours hasn't in 55,000miles since 2014. The largest service is the 4th year service which includes spark plus and air filter.... essentially this is the service your mums citigo is now due being 2013MY

Many thanks... looking on the VW Up forums their service schedule seems to be 5yrs for the belt...same car but a year longer!!!

Does the ASG require any sort of oil or fluid change at any point.... or does it not need any servicing in the way that a DSG does?

That is 6 speed and new 7 speed wet clutch DSG that require 40,000 mile oil & filter changes.

7 speed twin dry clutch DSG (DQ200) are filled for life and do not require oil changes. (well other than when VW do World Wide Recalls or European Service Campaigns...)

Ask Skoda UK Customer Services in writing about Servicing a ASG, likely they will refer you to a Dealership who will have not a clue.

A member recently posted that they were charged by a dealership for topping up their ASG when the Citigo was in for a service.
